Has your SAK Classic ever exploded to pieces?

I've been carrying and buying pocket knives now pretty regularly since March. I guess I can be called a newbie. But in my life I have owned three SAK Classics in total prior to life before BladeForums I guess, lmao for lack of a better description. AND ALL THREE eventually exploded on me.

Meaning they just went to heck in a hand basket after a while and slowly started falling apart. So much so that now that that I buy pocket knives - I feel that I never want to buy another SAK again. Am I being too harsh and has this happened to anyone else before?

Never had any SAK go bad on me (have used them many, many years and many models). Perhaps you're expecting a little
Classic to do to much. They are really just for opening envelopes, trimming a hang-nail and filing your fingernails. Not strong
enough for serious cutting. Try something like a Tinker or any 84 or 91 mm SAK. They will handle any reasonable job. Of course they are not pry bars either.

Also remember that most knife usage should be in line with the body of the knife. Twisting and torque on the frame, especially those with bolsters puts a lot of strain on the rivets. Even with my Tinker, I only use the screw drives to tighten loose screws or remove those that aren't very tight to start with.

I've used the classic to cut cardboard, zip ties, open blister packs, no problems. Nor any problems with any other SAK, either.

Are you sure those are genuine? If yes, send them back to factory.

Unless, it's been used to pry beyond the rivet's strength.
