Just read through a contentious beef on an marginally unacceptable ‘trade’..lot of words. I tried to add my two [2] cents..but didn’t make it ‘in there' ..OE I’m sure.

IDEA:

Why not consider establishing a ’Hassle Free Return’ policy for Member trades.

Something like a virtual ’escrow’ with say a five [5] day ’window’ for adjudication. If the parties to the deal can’t or won’t agree on a ‘solution’ the deal is reversed. Bing Bing.

Members could be invited to ‘Join’ or subscribe to such a process which status would be indicated by some simple symbol on their avatar.

Hassle Free Returns are proving to be exceptionally good business, minimizing wasteful angry seesawing, and providing binding ground rules which can ultimately protect the reputations of parties to any trade which doesn’t work out.

Any ‘Thoughts’..

The Bladeforums is not a party to the transactions which are facilitated by this site. The trades are between the members and the makers, dealers and other members. It is not in a position to hold escrow and arbitrate differences, nor can it set an all inclusive return policy for those transactions. The trading rules do establish that the deal is not over until both parties are satisfied, but it is up to the parties involved to establish the terms of the exchange. What you are suggesting would require that items be consigned and shipped to the forums, with the forums acting as the actual seller and shipper.

You got it. Spark (site owner) provides the venue, the adults involved in trades, sales, and purchases should be mature enough to draw out reasonable terms to which both parties can agree to amicable. If they cannot do that much, they do not need to be involved in any transactions here or else where, much less with sharp or pointy things.

One thing to note, there is no written rule indicating that no deal is done until both parties are satisfied. It has been an unwritten rule among members. However, if someone gets shafted then something needs to be done to correct the situation. This is why the rules indicate that sellers should be pessimistic with their descriptions, take clear pictures that are focused and well lit, etc. We try to spell things out as clearly as possible, yet some people cannot even catch on even then. There is no fixing that kind of unwillingness to follow the rules.

I was thinking ‘Virtual’ Escrow. Just a Concept underwritten by acknowledging acceptance of a ‘code’.

I’m well aware that anything physical or fiduciary would be impossible for The Forum Format. But, you folks said yourselves, there is an ‘unwritten’ what? Understanding about trades?

Why not make it like the cub scout oath. A real Code of Honor Or By Law’ virtually ‘signed‘ or attested to, logged and shared that formally sets out a preferred practice.. Like a ‘Preferred Trader’.

Point being ‘members who ‘subscribe’ tacitly accept the target ‘terms’ and are easily identifiable by an iconographic symbol or a quick link to a list. Trading with such a partner would almost assure a reduction in flailing laundry. A member who accepts the terms of the.. Call it a ’Trade Code’ and is highlighted as a ‘subscriber’ thereto would be less likely to not honor the terms [ their Word?] regardless of temptations.

I understand the value of the ‘way’ it works with the caveat that I am adverse to seeing folks punch it out over something personal in a ring surrounded by their cheering and jeering peers. But I’m getting the feeling that may be part of the fun? ha
