My wife was looking through a thrift store yesterday. They had a cart with ''outdoor items 20%off''. So she looked through it and found something she thought might be worth buying. After all it was only 3.00. She told me she found me something, but, wasn't sure where it was made, it had a blue head on it though. Had a little surface rust, i looked at the HB imprinted on mid point of the head. Looked a little closer and it said, "Made in Sweden''. YA HOOOOO, it was a 1 1/2 lb hatchet!!:) Has most of the blue paint on it, and i don't think it has been actually sharpened. Most of the varnish is still on the handle. Boy, that woman has an eye for good things. Eleven yrs ago, she bought me a Doxie pup, he ended up being built like a Rhinoceros, loll weighed 19 lbs and built like a tank. He was THE best dog i've ever had! I had to have him put down yesterday, Tough day, let me tell you. So, the hatchet helped a little, but, now i'm looking for another Doxie Black and Tan, just like him, anyone have any leads ? WE'd sure appreciate some help finding one, thanks.

Congratulations on the find. As for another pup, are you sure you don't want to take a little time to say goodbye to your old friend? Even if you find one that looks alike, they'll be a completely new individual. That said, if you hook up with a local rescue or look online you may find a new friend even if it's not a Doxie. Good luck and good healing.

Oh boy, i know it will be tough, but, we're stuck on these dogs, I've thought about a longer legged dog trust me,and a different breed loll. But, the heart and spirit these dogs have as a whole, just make you keep coming back. I'm going to get a Standard when i find someone who has a litter coming on. Little taller, little bigger. Chester at 19-20 lbs was a perfect wt, but, he could have been 2'' taller, loll. But, he made up for it, with the way enjoyed life, and our company. And, we do want to raise another pup. Thanks for the comment though, i do understand what your saying.

As far as the hatchet goes, my wife has a pretty good eye for things like that. Another time, not a hatchet, but, a necklace. I came home from work, she tells me she ''thinks'' she made a good by. Like a double strand PRE WW2 micki moto pearls that have been valued at over 10K!!! Ah, yeah!! She does pretty good, oh, she paid 10 dollars for the pearls, in the original box no less.

I feel the same way about pittbulls, they're the only dog breed I've ever had and will ever have.

As far as that hatchet goes that's a heck of a deal.
At my local antique store they had a blue hatchet that was made in China and they wanted 18$ for it :barf:

So what is the little blue "Made in Sweden" hatchet? Sorry if it is a dumb question, but I just found one myself and know nothing about it other than it was my great uncles and was given to me. I think it is hung on the original handle with good grain but very dry. I was thinking of rehanging it on a boys handle to teach my son how to handle an axe for boyscouts. If it is a real collectable instead of a user I'll clean it up and put some linseed on it and put it up for my son and find something else to use camping.

Nice find! I too have a couple/three (heads only) BLUE HB (made in Sweden) Hatchet heads I purchase on the cheap at Flea Markets. My best "score" however was two Summers ago when I found a PRISTINE condition (perhaps NOS) HB "Wildlife" Hatchet with Leather sheath. This was an earlier "Wildlife" model with slightly "S" curved handle. I purchased/swapped for the "Wildlife" hatchet for twenty dollars and an pocket knife!

Sorry about your pup---been there, done that---some of the hardest moments in life… Meanwhile, enjoy your "new" axe...

Soooo, I found a similar blue hatchet stamped 2 1/4 W GERMANY. Would it be bad to put it on the belt grinder and polish it up? I want to re handle it and give it back to the old man(whose trash pile the axe came out of) all polished up. It seems like the blue paint and patina are a good thing... I just started with the 80 grit by hand and stopped when i saw the stamp. googled it... Did I screw up?

Just read your post, and looked at the picture, the neat thing about my HB hatchet is, i noticed it has a small ''lip'' on the very back of the handle,on the bottom as you hold it, that corresponds with your little finger. As if to keep it from slipping off the handle. This is the original handle, kind of a neat idea. I've never seen a hatchet handle with this on it before, anyone else seen one?

Always nice to know things picked up for a couple of bucks are valued much higher by those in the know even if you have no urge to sell it...cheers.
