Hello there, I owe a thank you gift to a friend. He just bought a property and will have to do some maintenance, so I thought I'd get him a nice hatchet. Any recommendations on who makes a small, good looking one (that won't break the bank)?
Thanks!
Marco

You can't go wrong with estwing. You can grab the camp hatchet for around 36 bucks at home depot. It is really dependable. I have taken mine camping at least 25 times. It has survived everything I have thrown at it and it is very durable.

Estwing, Condor has very nice looking hatchets. I saw them in person, and was impressed, but I have not used them. The scout and greenland patterns seem like useful tools for less than $40 each.

I know it is a bit cliche, but I've used a few "standard" brands and then last year I used a Gränsfors Bruks and a Wetterlings. There was just no comparison. They cleaved and penetrated more and also were removed from the wood much more easily. I am NOT an axe expert by any means. I personally would rather use my saw and a large knife but that's more a product of not having the skills to properly use an axe. Good luck and I know they will enjoy either one.

Oh, when you said you wanted a hatchet that wouldn't break the bank I automatically went sub 50 bucks. I would definitely go with the gransfors if that's your budget! My GB hatchet is awesome.

Thanks, I meant I can't quite afford to commission one, or one individually produced. Thank you for the help.
