Found this on my property and was wondering how old it might be. The land has been settled for over 150 years.

Probably between the turn of the century and the 1960's, I've seen the pattern but don't kno what it's called.

Looks like a “roofer’s hatchet” head.

I suspect a solid steel construction there but I could be wrong. If there is a different steel forge welded to the poll or bit it can be quite old.
An octagon poll I think?
Plumb did lots of octagon polls but that one isn't in their 1906 catalog.

I think Coleman is right. How long ago was the last roof put on in the area that PO'd a guy enough to throw his tool?

The roof was that old style tin sometimes found in a sports bar for wall decor. I had a new roof put on 2 years ago, and they went down to the bare rafters and new plywood and all that. So the hawk could have been throw at someone 98 years ago, house is older than that, 150+.
