Seems like hatchets are coming my way for some reason. Be careful what you think about, it will appear. A friend at a pawn shop gave me a nice hatchet that has COMPANION U.S.A on it. It also says forged. Seems fairly sharp, not abused and has a nice narrow grind to the blade. Anyone heard of this company or hatchet? Most of what comes up is Paulsen's book Hatchet.

I believe Sears sold Companion tools and I'll try to look at my Father-n-law's Companion hatchet tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find out.

Thank you. Seemed like a good sharp blade. It would be nice to know who made them for Sears. Nice thin wedge to it and very sharp. Regards.

It is Sears they started using the Companion name in 1933 +/_ and are still using it today. Not sure who actually makes them for Sears....

Checked out my Father-n-law's hatchet, COMPANION and USA-M in smaller capitol letters under COMPANION. At least 30 years old. Sold by Sears.

Thank you for the reply. My hatchet seems to have a nice thin wedge shape to the blade and was fairly sharp and well taken care of. Have to see what she will do. Might leave it plain for a loaner or a learner for a kid.
