Has anyone used the current Buck hatchet? I am trying to compare it to the Fiskars and other offerings in the price range.

It is the the worse product Buck has ever imported. I really dislike the flimsy plastic hollow handle. The balance does not feel right.
Just my own opinion.

:thumbdn::(:mad:

I have one it has seen light use (kindling). I am satisfied with it for what I paid for it. Maybe Buck will start making them in the USA again.

i never could figure out why a great co. like buck would put their name on a POS product KNOWING its a POS. :confused:

We have one.It was a gift and came in the Buck Field Set. A great set by the way.I've used it several times cutting limbs, seperating frozen meat making tent stakes ect.. It could be improved but I wouldn't call it a POS either. Free country, still for now. DM

i guess ill throw my 2 cent in the fire.
i own one as i needed an average everyday hatchet and didnt want an old plumb hatchet. it does work good and it does sharpen well (a big surprise) seems some metal goes thru a freak process when it crosses the border of the usa comeing from somewere else . it shows up in america as a total P.O.S. like stated. but for an import i do have to say it works good, and sharpens fast and easy.all its realy good for is makeing kindelling and as maybee a hammer . i do like the weight and the price was nice at 18 dollers . not sure what they go for in the real market as i live 5 miles from the factory here in my home town of spokane.to tell the truth i would rather pay 50 bucks or so and see a real nice piece of tool in my hand but you know what they say . "wish in one hand and " well you know.

Its not Bad especially for the price. I have used it for a lot of kindling and camping and for under $20 you can't expect much more. I don't know why people think the handle is flimsy I haven't had any flexing or cracking of the handle, it just looks weak.

The handle flexes a fair bit on mine, especially if it gets warm,like when it's planted in the block near the fire. Now I use it for extra-lite backpacking only. I wouldn't buy it again. My Wetterlings or Estwing are way better tools.

Buck's retail for this item is $46 not $20! I paid $34 for one at a local high end retail shop (I should have asked hengem to pick one up for me;)). The Ax performed as I expected it to...it split small logs just fine. It is very light and was carried in my pack most of the trip! I would recomend it for a light pack/camp ax.

Thats how I got my Buck hatchet. I've used it several times camping and worked as well as anything else I've had.
