Well the day has come that I'm going to try and trade or sale my zt 0550 THIS IS NOT A SALE/TRADE THREAD I just can't deal with hoe soft the s35vn steel is, I love that knife so much but I hate how soft the edge is. That's it for my bickering.

what did you try to cut that you found it too soft for the job? My 550 has held up pretty well despite the reprofiled edge I put on it.

I've never had a Problem with it being to Soft..I've had many different knives made of it...maybe Email KAI with your concern and they'll take care of you.

Well all I really have cut with it is cardboard boxes at work I kept the factory bevel and sharpened it on my edge pro to 1000 grit and a strop and yesterday I touched it up before I went to work probably cut down about 10 boxes corners so about 40 cuts about 3 inches long and this morning was looking at it and the whole edge has little dings and curls in the edge and it was not like that at all when I went to work last night.....

I know what you mean. I have a 561 and I would guess that the steel is only about 55 RC by how it holds the edge. The edge retention on the Elmax is nowhere near what the S35VN and CPM 154 That I ground and heat treated myself. I am thinking of trying to reheat treat the blade.

Strange. Maybe it was just that particular batch? My 0550 held up pretty well, and I was trying to put it through some harder paces to see how S35VN held up (it's my first/only knife with that particular steel). Just out of curiosity, I cut up a tin can with my 0550 (spiral cut, ~1" wide ribbon), and all it did was some minor rolling on a couple of spots on the edge (which I was able to get out with a few passes over a honing rod). This was after I cut the can apart and steel'ed the edge (and wiped off much of the tin residue from the DLC).

Can't you test it?

If it bothers u that bad, I'll trade u out of it for a kershaw and maybe some cash lol

I think my serial number was 2989. I reground the blade to thinner edge and lost the serial #.
