when this design was brought to me by the lady so kind as to pay; I hated it... Was NOT interested, and did NOT like the handle... But, after holding and playing with it a bit with temp pins in place, it seems pretty nice... Ever had that happen before?

When I first saw the design, and REALLY after profiling, I thought the handle was a bit pregnant, but the way one tends to hold a paring knife it seems to fit...

The drawing brought to me was just the outline of the blade from looking at it above... I was told to handle as I saw fit as long as I used the wood she brought to me... Walnut... Not even pretty walnut.... But the walnut she brought was from something that had been in the family for a while...

LOTS of work left to do, but I look forward to finishing this critter I thought I would hate...

You know that handle shape seems familiar to me, I can't place it yet, but I think I have seen a production knife with it before. Looks good so far! Nice work.

I agree Xander, I haven't found the "one" yet, but it looks like several out there.

It's about ready for handle work and I made a copy of it for me as well. Gonna play with this one a bit since I see a few changes I can make.

Final pics will come in the next day or so Cat.

Have the knife almost finished, but the nice lady wanted a pic of the progress thus far to show her husband. Still need to finalize the edge and do a little touch up on some handle spots I don't like. Overall it turned out pretty well compared to what I thought about it at first, and the tip is very pointy, stabbed myself twice with it!

4" cutting edge
Walnut scales from an old wardrobe door
Mosaic pins 1/8"

not bad at all, i've always loved spear-point paring knives. kind of an euro/asian hybrid. the only thing i would change is to bring the working edge all the way back, but that preference varies from cook to cook.

Hey, that's VERY pretty.

Well the wood looked plain before it was finished up but now the grain sparkles :D very cool

Did you stabilize the wood? If so, how?
How did you finish the scales?
I really like the look of the knife.

The grain really did pop on this one for sure.

The scales on this one are not stabilized since it came off of an old wardrobe door the customer provided. The finish is Tru-oil at 5 coats.

Sharp little critter and she loved it.

Good Lord....that looks like a knife I made for a doctor a few years back!!! FYI he is a medical examiner and uses the knife on autopsies. I am serious. I made it for him after two other makers got squeamish and turned him down. Almost a dead ringer for my knife.

I'd love to see a picture of it. I've had 2 people accuse me of making an oversize scalpel!
