So, I had this most awesome trip to Berlin. Obviously, I had to snatch myself a knife or two, but this one really was happy surprise. We were just walking through flea market and I saw a table of old slip joint knives and saw this:

Stamps in the main blade got logo and rostfrei (stainless), and the other side says Hartkopf & Co solingen
Small clip blade has logo and rostfrei as well.
Can opener has "R" stamped to it.
Also the bottle opener has "R" stamped.

Any idea of the age and steel on this one? It was little bit gunky, got patina going on in the brass. It got scratches in the blades and it feels oldish, but considering it is in great condition! It's funny because I have wanted this kind of knife (Böker sportmesser for instance) and just randomly ran into one. Bought it for 20e, and whatever it is or despite the age, it was one of the best finds on the trip!

Wow, great find! Congratulations

Wow, that's a nice find! I can't help with the ID but I'd say you got lucky with that one.

:D

I knew that the can opener was of old design but still. I am really happy that I found out this knife. My first really vintage knife, and found completely accidentally.

It was meant to be! Great find and beautiful knife... congrats!

Awesome. I would proudly carry that thing :D

Kind of impressive to see a stainless camp knife that old. I wonder how good it holds an edge. Talking out my ass here but I would expect stainless metallurgy to have improved during the war, and it definitely exploded in popularity in the 50's. Kind of a cool topic.

Sounds like sheffield was cranking out stainless in the early 20s. Interesting. All my scout and camp knives have patina (1095?). Very interesting knife you have there!

That´s a mighty fine knife, Sir! Friedrich Hartkopf is one of my favorite manufacturers. I like their work so much. I don´t know how to date this one - but you could send a pic of the knife for more information. Maybe a close pic of the tang stamp could help. Many cutleries changed their stamps during time - CASE Cutlery for example.

Here is their site: http://www.friedrich-hartkopf.de/#Startseite

I just checked the sites and found out you got the pattern "Deutsches Militärmesser" - gonna send you a link about a vendor via VM.
You made definitelly a great deal! What a wonderful knife. AFAIK Hartkopf often uses 1.4116 on their knives.

Hope it could help a little!
