Picked up the little 10.5" khuk he made, the walnut handled one with the standard scabbard in last Friday's DOTD. What a delightful little khukuri! It's somewhere between a large Bilton and a 12" khuk for size (see pic, it's the one in the middle), very comfortable, and very nicely made. Been looking for a khuk this size/configuration ever since Berkley showed me his Chesapeake (sic) Knife Club Khukuri, perfect size khuk for around the house or taking an unobtrusive walk in the woods. The mirror polished blade is sharp as any villager I've handled, and the beautiful hill walnut handle, with it's white metal fittings, is something to see. The karda and chakma are nicely handled in matching wood, and when I tested their blades, I was absolutely tickled. The karda will cut small shavings from a six penny nail without edge deformation, and the chakma's so hard it cheerfully burnished the edges of a couple of my homemade file knives. Don't want to scratch it up banging it against a piece of flint, got plenty of my handforged firesteels laying around if I need to light a fire, but I've no doubt it would throw a hot spark.
Looking this rig over closely, it's plain to see that every aspect of it's making, from the khuk, to the accessories, to the scabbard, was accomplished by the hands of one man, Sergeant Khadka. Well done, very well done, good sergeant.
