Since I got my Rodent 6 over a year ago, I have beat the living crap out of it. I also did a feeble attempt at sharpening mostly just scratching it's satin finish all to hell.
Other than my ab-use of the knife, I only ever had two issues. One was my handle scales weren't totally flush up top, a situation I made even worse pounding the handle out when I got it stuck battoning a tree sized log, for fun. The other thing was I have giant fat fingers and when I choked up on the choil my finger would catch the sharp edge, after a couple nice bleeding bites I stopped choking up.
Since I was moving across country I decided this would be a good time to send in my knife for warranty work on the original handle issue. (packing planning, driving, unpacking etc would ease the wait time). I also mentioned the choil problem and asked if they could buff out the once gorgeous satin finish a bit.
Good golly miss molly!! When I got my knife back I almost fell out my seat! Did they send me a new one? O man the handles where now flush to the highest tolerance! The blade is ABSOLUTELY AS NEW! I was thrilled, but the best was yet to come!... I suggested they might dull the sharp edge of the choil because of my big fingers.. They CUT IT DEEPER! I already considered this a custom knife, but now it's fit JUST FOR ME! I am so impressed that they machined this knife and there was no charge. I want to thank Alan for a phenomenal job! She's razor sharp, pretty as hell and a perfect fit in every hold now!
The only thing that was actually a warranty claim was the handle scales. Everything else goes to show why Swamp Rat provides an ownership experience like you won't believe!
When it's comes to fixed blades I would have a hard time not buying a SWAMP RAT... Worth every penny!!! Thanks custom shop!!
