hattori handle query

I have two questions for anyone interested in helping me out. The first is in regard to handle size for Hattori knives. I was interested in purchasing the Fallkniven Thor (similar to Hattori Big Bowie 2) or perhaps the TV3 Vietnam era Bowie knife (it has a contoured micarta handle). My hand is 9 inches in circumference.

Does anyone who has large or XL hands comment on either of these handles?

My second query concerns carrying big bowie style blades. I assume that those in the military don't like to carry huge bowies and the like because of bulk and weight.

I also assume that a smaller Bowie would take care of my needs--occasional woodcraft while hiking and skinning chores on the sheep farm. Does manipulating a large blade prove to be problematic when skinning a medium sized mammal?

To make a long story short:

Is a big bowie good for these kinds of uses or is it overkill?

Thanks for your input regarding both my queries.

Handling a large knife isn't a problem as long as you don't mind choking up on the blade while your skinning or butchering an animal.I just bought a 6" Randall that I hope to use for the same purpose (elk). Adjust with your tool for the purpose at hand and you'll do fine.

I have the Fallkniven Thor and the handle feels small in circumference to me, and I have medium-small hands. I've read where others complain of the same thing, the handle needing to be beefier. If the Hattoris are like that then I think your XL hands will have the same problem. The length is probably fine, it's the girth that's the problem. It can be wrapped with grip tape that they use on tennis rackets and the like if you choose to do that.
