Which do you prefer?

Yes ,fallxxx ae produced by hattori ,japan .
Why we still choose fallxxxx knives?
Why not buy whole vg-10 knives rather than lam.vg-10 knives?
The lam .only about 1/3 vg-10 ,other is 420j.
To choose other japanes knives , there are some outstanding steel ,beside super gold powder steel ,zdp189,crowy x & y , ou31.

The TK1 isn't lam. VG10 but 3G
Core of SGPS (powder steel) and sides of VG2 (better than 420j)

They switched the core of their line from solid vg10 to lam. vg10 because it's supposed to be stronger.

I do not think the changing of lam .vg10 becuase of the better quaility.
if it is right , why those japanese knives still used whole vg-10 , while Japanese are very concerned about the steel quaility of knives .(my opinion may not correct).
the main reason is the reducing the cost.
for the 3g knives , they are expensive .
Some Japanese knives are made of crowy x only about usd 400-450.
other japanese knives made of ou31(powder steel ) is just about usd 250.
certainly , u2 of fallxxx is recommended as its price is reasonable.

whats inside super gold powder steel?? what does it cost? who sells super gold powder steel?

Yes I know

But I mentioned the Hattori rc because I'm a bit concerned vg10 could become brittle at 61rc for allround use?
I really don't know

I already purchased the Hattori Fighter and can't seem to say enough about it. My only issue is the fact that it will never be used, but the feel and look are outstanding.

In the very near future, I will probably be purchasing the same Hattori as you have listed (as a hunting knife). Don't get me wrong, I have a Fallkniven (did I spell that correctly?), the A1 - and love it. I can't say enough great things about it. However, I think the Fallkniven is close to $300 - a bit much for me at this time for a hunting knife. I thought (could be wrong) that the Hattori is half the price?

I've seen the fallkniven range from $260 to $300.
The Hattori I've only seen for $215?

Maybe I must search a bit more.

But anyway these aren't for tomorrow, got some cheaper knives on the list first:D

I will not be surprized if it turns out that Hattory, is making knives for Fallkniven and both of this knives are made by Hattory.

Thanks, Vassili.

I own and use the TK1 and can't speak highly enough of this knife. It's my primary big game hunting knife. Sharpens and holds very much like ZDP without the brittleness (possibly due to the strength of the convex grind?). Easy to choke up on for precision cuts.

Regardless, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat ...

yeah tou could probably get a really nice custom knife for 300bucks, the fallkniven is still a production knife afaik. i think 300 is too much for such a small knife even if it was made from unobtanium.. 300 is a fair price for a very large chopper imo. but if people are willing to pay, hey go ahead.

Giving 300 bucks to a large chopper is (imho) madness.
A large chopper only need a though carbon steel.
Refinement or fit and finish doesn't match with a big heavy chopper.
I wouldn't rate a knife on the lbs it weights.

You are right on the custom.
I also find $300 a lot of money for a production knife but there aren't much customs who make a knife with the same materials for that price

hey neo a little OT but are you still interested in that mora hunting knife? check your old thread if that is the case, i found it... at www.jula.se the thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=401845.

btw i meant a large chopper in (well) highend steel (expensive steel) im not in the carbon business, they all rust on me. i cant have a carbon steel knife. ss all the way for me, even tho i know its not optimal for the application. anyway check your old thread
