With the new folder I put a leather fob on there, like I normally braid them, but I had a thought, strange I know, but it happens in the best of familes ;) and dug through my cabinet and found this small wood bead with a large hole through the center, hmmm that would be a nice catch when drawing the folder out of the pocket or sheath. BUT how to put the leather through? So then it came to me, run both ends through the hole and then back through again! Self locking little fob! very slick and thought I'd share this idea with you guys and gals. You catch the ball with the hook of your pinky to pull the knife clear.

Might be hard to picture even with this scan, but it works nice...soft elkskin leather used, thanks to WildRose, aka Chuck...:)

Thanks John, to help a little, here is another scan with the knife on it's spine so you can view the fob the way the leather runs in and out, looks pretty clean...lucky eh? ;)

Wow - that looks great!

I wonder if there are any similarly sized/drilled titanium balls? That would be kind of cool to have a wood and titanium fob, but I guess you'd have to worry about marring the handles :)

Yah, I'd certainly give it a try if I had one though, I think the leather would help keep it away enough to not be a problem..

Nevermind, I thought Halpern had Ti rod in stock, but I don't see it after all.

I'll have to check around and see if I can find some more beads or have some made...

Another tip, when you go to put the leather through the second time, use a paper clip to push the leather through the bead.

I terminate my cord lanyards with a double or triple pass mankey's fist knot, same idea.

George

Yep George, same idea, something to grab on to retrieve the knife, used the Monkey fist thing in the Navy for a throwing line, had a solid metal ball inside of it as well for weight.

I am just not that clever to tie one of those, where this is pretty simple even for me ;) And easy to remove if you want to take the knife apart to give her a good cleaning.

Going to a couple craft stores today and see if they carry any beads like this, the hole needs to be about 3/8".

My daughter made some wooden beads for me, I asked her to make a couple in top form, so that one end tapers down from the top flat, works very nice, she's a pretty clever girl eh?
