Well when I got home today I found out my pups got out in a gap in our fence that I had been meaning to fix. I figured that they were too big to fit through it anymore. I was wrong. Turns out that my favorite was hit and killed by a car. My neighbors were present and said that he died instantly. The driver was really affected. Poor gal. My other pup kept nudging him to try to get his buddy to get up. Then I think he realized something was wrong and wouldn't let anyone near him.

The good part, if there is a good part, is that my neighbor carried him back and put him in my yard and briefed us before we pulled into the drive way. I was able to burry him on our property. The hard part will be telling the kids tomorrow.

I found him as a stray pup. maybe 2-3 months old. He was always at my heels. We were going to take him on his first camping trip soon. I figure that what short life he did have was at least quality. The family seems a little smaller now but these things happen.

The thing that kills me is that I looked at that damn gap in the fence yesterday and told my self that I needed to fix it just incase. It took me under 2 minutes to fix it tonight. 2 minutes cost by bud his life. :grumpy:

Hard lesson learned but I shall not let the little things pass as trivial anymore. Or at least not as often.

I need to score some INFI to cheer myself up (sorry but humor and INFI helps me deal).

So here is a toast (your choice of drink) to INDIANA.

I LOVE YOU MAN! :)

R.I.P.

I had one get hit by a car running across the street after a cat. He was off a leash and I didnt expect him to do that. He was a good dog. We had a little Dauchsand in the house at the time that chewed the door jam to peices while I took mine to the vet, he was upset. Heres a toast to good dogs and mans best freind.

Very sorry,

Losing anything, love hurts. All my years of breeding and raising dogs and having pets.--They are all Houdinis, and will, eventually escape from anything. Be prepared and look at all options for escape. It is just in an animals nature to explore. Fix the easy and expect the worst. Most of the animals I have ever had, like where they are, and even if they could escape, would not, but I have had a few, as much as I think they love me or anyone else,--still look for that outward escape, just because. In that case a different strategy will occur.
Secondary defense or offense, just depends on how you look at it. If they really want out, even if they just want to play and do not know any better they will try to get out and they are at natural surroundings discretion. I am sorry for your loss.

I am now having a drink for INDY

Sorry to hear that bud, I had a drink for him as well. This kind of stuff justs kicks me in the balls. I deal with human loss far better than pet loss, as screwed up as that sounds. I have a lab and a shepherd, one a pet and one a partner at work. I feel your pain my brother!

Thanks guys. I appriciate the words. My wife left this poem on the screen for me to read and thought it was pretty neat (despite any religous differences between us all).

Waiting at the Gate

I explained to St. Peter
I'd rather stay here
Just outside the Pearly Gate.
I won't be a nuisance, I won't even bark,
I'll be very patient and wait.

I'll be right here chewing
A celestial bone
No matter how long you may be.
'Cause I'd miss you too much,
If I went in alone--
It wouldn't be heaven for me.

Time to go abuse the NO-E a bit to work it out.

Tyrkon - I'm very, very sorry. These things never get any easier to take. Try to not beat yourself up too badly, bro.

Know your pain.

Simialr story (not to hijack man...)

I didn't snap the chain on my dogs collar right, turned around, and she was gone. Looked the rest of the weekend.

She ended up getting hit by a car 2 blocks from the house. Neighbor said she went instantly.

Never had another. That was 1972.

May time, family, and INFI help heal the pain of your loss..

Hammy

Sorry to hear that Tyrkon. I'll definitely raise a glass for Indy. I'm sorry for your loss.

I think you struck a chord with a lot of people - many of us have been through it. Its 11pm here on the other side of the world and I just raised my glass.

Regards to your family.

TL, I am sorry to hear of your loss. Its just so very sad. Well wishes and kind thoughts are headed your way!

Y'all are in our thoughts bro, I feel your pain. Not much worse than putting down an old buddy, I had to do it a couple of years ago to a 14 year old companion. :(
