I hope everyone has a great weekend!

What are you guys up to?

The weather is nice here, we went on a hike and did some rock collecting with Jade yesterday. Jade had a blast and we found some Azurite and Royalite. The Royalite is bright bubble gum purple and contains trace Platinum; polishes up nicely. Jade really had a blast, it was her first rock collecting excursion. :D

Today I'm going to work on sheaths and Ti Keychain Tools! I have a batch of customs 99% complete and the keychain tools are close. I might have a few KCT's up later today if all goes well.

Sounds like a good time!

Gonna head over to the asparagus festival tomorrow, its pretty big, over 100K people attend the 3 day event. Lots o good food, good music and the people watching is the best!

I also picked up a couple gallons of canola oil yesterday, so I should be able to HT some stuff on Monday. If all goes well, I plan to start on my mini knife for the KITH, but I need to make a spring fuller for what I want to do. Shouldn't be too difficult, but these minis are full of surprises!

Hey Daniel
Did you take any photos of the rocks you collected yesterday?
Just curious what they look like. We still have a couple feet of snow on the ground. Seems like spring is never going to come this year. Thanks!
Have a good weekend!

The festival sounds awesome! Stay clear pf the porta-potties though. Asparagus! :p :D

Sounds great on the canola. Keep us posted on the mini, I am glad you are putting on the KITH.

Oh gawd, the porta potties...I worked the festival for several years when I was workin on farms. One year, they put the farmers market 20 yards from one of the rows of porta potties, just the effects of asparagus is enough to make one gag, but factor in all the beer, hard liquor, vomit, and 95* temps it was down right dreadfull!

I think they are doing the west coast BBQ competition finals as part of the festival this year, that is one of my favorite events to go to. Guys from all over, cookin up amazin stuff! My favorite has to be the atomic buffalo balls. Jalapeño's stuffed with cream cheese spiced with black, red and cayan pepper, wrapped in bacon then breaded and fried. They als do a version not breaded but smoked for 2 hours at 225* over hicory chips. Damn tasty!

I enjoy hosting the KITH, it really challenges me and helps me with my attention to detail. Also, I get to try out new techniques rather cheaply!

Here we go!

As found - Royalite in Gangue (junky host rock - limonite and quartz for the most part). The Royalite has specks of Chalcopyrite which can be crushed out and jigged for trace Platinum. The value in this stone is for polishing as it is non commercially viable. This stone only comes from one mine and is very rare, the location is very unusual in that deep earth materials are found.

Dry - very hard to spot! These are so-so pieces, we kept them as it was Jade's first rock collecting trip.

Wet - It generally polishes up to look as wet

This end piece is solid, that is quartz on the tip... a good sign.

Here are a couple of pieces I polished up - one is a natural "window" polished up for fun, the other a slab that I was not sure would polish

They look great! How odd that it only occurs in one place. Sounds like a great reason to be out in the woods and even better to get the little one outside and getting her hands dirty.
Have a good one

It is a really fun spot... I think there are at least 100 interesting minerals that can be found in the canyon area including Tellerium Gold and Coloradoite. There are mines everywhere, I'll get some photos next time.

Cool!
Daniel- Post a pic of the one that fell out of yo head. :D

Those are uploading... :D
