My Wife wanted to know what I wanted for Christmas.

So I thought about it and came up with a Nyala :D:D:D

Got it from the fine folk at KnifeArt and they shipped it today. Now I wait until Christmas. ;)

Really looking forward to this knife. I love my Large 21 diamond plate Sebenza and the Nyala looks like a fixed blade Sebenza so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love the Nyala too.

Looking forward to getting some first hand experience with the S35Vn steel as well. I got my 21 just before the steel changeover so it's S30V.

Just had to share my anticipation with some who could understand. I showed the pics to my Wife (she's not a knife knut by any means) and she said "looks like all the others you have..." Considering this is my first fixed blade purchase I'm thinking that she doesn't appreciate the Nyala for what it is. :)

IMO S35VN sounds like a promising blade steel also I think you made an excellent choice by choosing the nyala I think it may be the " Holy Grail " of hunting knives.

The Nyala blade is considerably thicker than the blade on the Sebenza. The few problems with the S35VN seem to plague the thinner blade stock.

I have had no problems with mine at all. The Nyala is a great all around edc fixed blade.

I would have a problem waiting for the 25th if the package was under the tree - I'd be working on bribing the wife to let me open it early.

The Nyala is a very nice knife, but I find that mine sees little use in favour of the reground skinner I did. That strangly enough was done to mirror the Nyala blade shape. I personally prefer the OPK handle style and steel but still wanted to have the Nyala blade shape. :)

I'm going to have a hard time waiting too, but I will try to be good. :D

We'll see how I hold up.

You will love the Nyala for sure. I have been using mine a lot more lately. It is perfect for EDC as far as fixed blades are concerned.

Mine has been in my ready use drawer of my desk since Mrs. Stainz shocked me with it last Christmas day. I grab it when I need a fb - it is super handy. It followed my first CRK - a WC 'StarTac' 'zaan 9/10 and itself was followed by my small Sebbie 7/11. Of my three CRK's, the 'zaan is slightly my favorite - lots of pocket time - but the Nyala is a close second, with the little Sebbie a distant third (Carried in a sheath, I often forget I have it!). The Nyala is a great hand fit and a useful blade size and shape. My first S35VN blade, it seems at least as good as S30v, edge retention wise, and perhaps easier to re-edge.

My only problem is the sheath - it is serviceable, but needs to be darker - and I'd like to control it's 'patina'! Any ideas or suggestions on 'finishing' it would be appreciated.

Congrats on the great Christmas present.
I've almost bought one a couple of times, but it rides alot higher in the sheath than I like. I love the knife and may go ahead and get one, and have a custom sheath made to my liking.

Thanks for all the positive input, really lookin' forward to it. It's "in the house" but has been confiscated by my lovely Wife (she signed for it from the Mailman, so I had no chance :p ), just in case I wanted to 'evaluate' it before Christmas :D:D

I'll be back with pics and impressions after Christmas.

I recently bought one of the 25 Orvis Tamboti Nyalas and for some illogical reason that gave me some head space for dying one of the sheaths. I am using Saddle Tan alcohol-based dye by Fiebling. The early results are promising. I'll post some pics when it's really had a chance to dry and I've gotten a sealer/finish of one sort or another into the leather. I said this a couple of years ago, but I still think the whole sheath design on the Nyala is at best very limited and (I will be blunt) not up to the high standard of the knife itself.
