I just purchased an ATS-34 Gerber Gator. The knife is great. I love everything about it. It was shaving sharp right out of the package. The only problem is when i look at the edge really close, i can see that the bevel angles are different on each side. One side is fairly steep and the other is not. Can a lansky sharpener fix this? If not, what should i use? Thanks for any input.

Marquette, welcome to the Blade forums. You are new here. I am glad you like your knife, but it is Obvious that it is Not great. What you have noticed is a Major flaw. Yes, it can be fixed. But it will take a lot of work. You need to regrind the primary bevels. Start on course stones and proceed to finer stones. Keep the angle the Same on both sides. Good luck.

Hi..MARQUETTE ROTC

Usually when I get a new knife,, I wait until it is as dull as I can stand it, I will put it in the jig and redo the angles to the sharpener..

It does take some time to do,,but it is good time spent in front of the TV...

I was too hasty in my reply. Normark is right. Enjoy the knife now. When it is dull, you will have some work to do. I should also mention that I like sharpening. It is good meditation. TV is just a waste of time.
