So I recently acquired a Case Sodbuster Jr. and I love it but I want to do a few things to make it even cooler. I would really like a lanyard hole on this little guy and I was wondering if anybody here had tried this before? I have heard it can be done but would like information on how it is done and if you need a drill press and what bits were used and what process was there?
The other thing I was thinking about was dying the handle. I know some have done this but I was wondering if anybody could break down the process for me so i can do it right.
Any help is greatly appreciated! its awesome to have a resource like this where I could actually pose these questions!
Thanks
Brian

This forum area doesn't have the same kind of traffic coming through as General. I have heard of a few people here that have tackled both projects. Just keep bumping this thread from time to time. I'm sure someone will have some good advice for you.

Cool thanks P2P!! yeah I figured traffic was slow in here based on how long it took me to notice it:) I just think a lanyard hole would be a great addition to this thing. heck if i can do that and dye it orange its almost like getting a GEC f&f tool for 20 bucks!
Thanks again
Brian

I used "scarlett" colored Rit dye (get it at your grocery store)

Fill 2 cup Pyrex measuring cup with enough water to cover knife handle.
Put in microwave and heat to near boil.
Add 1 full package of Rit dye and stir well.
Clean knife with rubbing alcohol and put in dye mixture.
Stir mixture occasionally.
When dye mixture cools (about 15 to 20 minutes) remove knife, rinse with water and scrub blade with toothbrush.
With knife out of mixture, reheat mixture in microwave (cover mixture with towel or such so that mixture doesn't splatter inside of microwave).
Put knife in mixture and stir.

I repeated the "reheat process" six times and ended up with a red, orange, yellow "boney" looking finish.

Clean knife well with fresh water and oil.
I used a toothpick to get any excess dye out from any nooks and crannies.

Looking at my Sodbuster Jr., I don't think you could get a lanyard hole in there. Once the blade is closed, there just isn't enough room.

Thanks for the help Beemerpecker! exactly what i was looking for! yours looks awesome by the way. I might try it with blue or green just to see what it looks like.
Calvinw: yeah i was thinking that too but i also read on here that some folks new of people who had done it and i just wanted to see if any of them might be able to tell me the trick since, like you said, it doesnt look like there is any room for error if you try.
Thanks Again!
Brian
