Have any of our custom makers made a knife from talonite yet?

Just wondering what our custom makers thought about talonite. Can you work with it as well as steel? Does the heat treating process differ? Any other thoughts concerning talonite would be appreciated other than it costs too much.

Thanks!

I think Tom Mayo has used talonite on occasion.;) I am darn sure that quite a few others have as well.

db, you're joking, right?:D

Rumour has it that the first actual knife to be made of "talonite" [if that's how it's spelled] will be the Busse folder. I think some guy named Simon Inch did some experiments, but finally gave up.

PS
In case the first post was serious...
many custom makers have done superb knives in talonite and stellite. There are tons of threads on the subject.

Talonite requires no heat treat.

It is a lot (sorry for the technical term) harder to cut & work than steel, but not impossible.

It doesn't take as good a polish as steel.

My EDC in Talonite cuts so aggresively it is freakin scary, plus it NEVER GOES DULL.

The stuff is tough to grind and finsh but the bades are acoordingly tough. the fact that it never rusts is a great help, too, not to mention how nice it is to go from bar stock to finished blade without need to stop for heat treatment.
The only drawback I found regarding performance is that it seemed to take a bend quite easily ( comparing to steel ), though it would get back to ture quite easily as well.
I am not working with this stuff right now for health reasons as I don't have a proper dust collecting system at the shop and there are too many animals around it and I don't know what effects the talonite dust may have on them, but I have even considered making my chisel ground blades only from Talonite stock.

Talonite was born as a blade material on the forums.. Rob was the first, and I was right after him for the first blades ever made from the stuff.. Talonite is a great material and is hugely popular.. Its not that hard to work with, but it is different.
