Have any of you removed the pocket clips on your EDC knives?

I really was wondering if I wanted to advertise that I'm carrying. There are lots of times here in Mexico when we are stopped in my SUV and it is searched by various Military and Police agencies.

I know it's different in the good ole USA generally, and I really don't mind having my Endura loose in the pocket as well as my other EDC blades. But since I automatically clip them to the pocket, I figure it might be good to just remove the clips.

What think ye?

I have to wear dress pants most of the time so yes, I removed the clip from my EDC. The thinner the better as stuff prints easily in dress pants.

I removed my clip from one of my Enduras and put a short braided lanyard on it. So it's easier to pull out of my pocket, when needed. No one never notices the lanyard.

I went away from clip carry while deployed since I lost too many things that way. With the belts/straps betting into/out of vehicles/choppers I came to trust things strapped to me in a sheath or in my pocket a 100% more than a clip that could snag and be gone.

I removed the clip from my mini Grip that I carry. The handle just feels so much better to me on that particular knife without the clip. Also its small enough to ride down in my pocket and not become a bother. Also I use that knife for some pretty tough cutting jobs and without the clip the handle doesn't become uncomfortable for extended use.

I have always removed clips ever since I lost a nice Benchmade. I used to work on an airport ramp and frequently watched other guys lose keys, radios, knives, etc. out on runways and taxiways which is a HUGE deal at an airport. You would be amazed at some of the things we would find on the runways. All of my gear is firmly attached to my belt. I can't believe how many guys will actually carry their gun in a holster that just clips to their belt. Some things are much too important to rely on a cheeseball clip that snags on everything you get up against. And as someone else mentioned having that clip showing is a great way to meet certain cops that don't think you should have something as dangerous as a KNIFE in your possession. When my nephew asked me why the clip was removed from my EDC I told him what usually happens to clipped on gear and he laughed. Two weeks later HE lost his new Griptilian while it was clipped to his jeans. He takes his clips off now too. Clips are one of those things that seems like a great idea but unless the clip is adjusted so tight that you can barely get it on or off it will fail. I almost lost a couple of knives and kept tightening the clip and then finally realized it ain't such a grand idea.

I had a CRKT 6773Z Crawford Kasper knife that I snagged the clip on a doorjam and ripped the clip right off. it wasn't my EDC after that.

I generally carry fairly large pocket knives, so I usually remove the pocket-clip and carry the knife in a horizontal belt sheath...That works well for me.

I only take the clips off if they are not a deep-carry clip. A short deep-carry clip allows you to carry the knife without the knife showing, and the clip can be covered/painted/coated in some other way to make it very hard to discern as a clip. This is what I've done with every edc I have. If I can't fit a standard deep-carry clip, the ones from usaknifemaker, then I turn the original clip into a deep carry clip. Best way I've found to carry a knife unnoticed, yet still handy enough to get to without having to dig through your pocket.

maybe I'm missing something here but in many places (not Mexico AFAIK) carrying a knife inside the pocket would be considered concealed and it could get you in trouble.

A stack of furniture pads removed my clip for me on my Dragonfly. I lost and find the knife three or four times before it was ripped off. I currently carry a BM Dejavoo that I have to take the clip off of.

i carried my endura with a lanyard a few times after the pocket clip broke off, man was it nice when i finally got a new clip for it, i cant understand the attraction of having to fumble and dig for a knife carried and often used daily. to each his own , but i think if you do this your probubly not using your knives much or in situations where you might need to grab it while holding something in the other hand or desire easy access when its being used often.

I have a couple of Cold Steel Voyager Tantos from the Zytel pocket clip era, large and small models. I managed to break the pocket clip off of both of them accidentally, so I cut the remaining part off and sanded them down flat: they're the lightest and easiest to conceal knives in my collection now.

It's considered concealed when the clip (or any part of the knife) isn't showing- at least where I'm at, but the idea of a lanyard is something to look into. As well as the horizontal belt sheath. However, my default is clipped in the pocket; muscle memory and all.

I carry a bm 630 clipped, a bm pen clipped right behind that, and a slipjoint loose in the pocket with the keys. I NEED the option of grabbing and deploying the knife one handed. I use my knife countless times a day at work and at home, and Im also a big guy who is often in a position where getting my hand all the way into my pocket is almost impossible. I also love the look of a knife poking out of a pocket. I think it kind of puts you in the category of practical capable men who are not shy about the fact that they carry a cutting tool. I can't say how many times a person in a movie or tv show is caught in a net, or a rope, or a seatbelt, and I can't help saying "see! That's why you should always have a knife clipped to your pocket!". but I always have the backup in the pocket just in case. I'm a bit of a benchmade guy, and I've caught my clip on stuff before, and had to remove, rebend, and reinstall a clip, but I've never even heard of one of their clips breaking. Go USA!

I use the clip, even in Mexico. Guess I was lucky.

Did rip the clip off my 4Sevens Quark Tactical 2xAA flashlight.

Took the clip off a BM 2 3/4" Mel Pardue that was pretty much EDC for a long time. More comfortable in my hand and in my pocket. Now carrying a 4" LA Police Gear for EDC; (It's my $5 knife but that is another story) clip is on but usually not used. I go back and forth on the clip thing. See no need to "advertise" yet sometimes I have so much stuff jeans pockets that I will clip one on. May even experiment with a small fixed blade knife in a belt sheath. Guess I just can't make up my mind. Carry different stuff on different days - but isn't variety fun?

i myself have never used the clips on knives. to me it feels more comfortable in the bottom of my pocket. i do leave the clips on though.
