HEY!

I decided to put an ad in a local bi-weekly newspaper. It is comprised of ads only. I am sure you have one in your area too, as I have seen them everywhere. I placed an ad looking for Old American made pocket knives. I should start to hear something soon. Have any of you done this? and how did it work out. I have seen some threads concerning pricing but that is all. I am looking for knives to resell to support my own collecting habits. Of course I might find that GEM that needs added to my own collection too. Anything that I should be careful of????

Thanks

I'm not gonna say you won't get any response, but most of what you do get will probably not be worth buying...

I know a guy who uses the method you're talking about, plus puts business cards around on public bulletin boards... Most non collectors will think that the Old Timer they have is older than it is and worth a fortune.

If you want to sell to support you hobby, I suggest hitting a few knife shows a year, you'd be surprised at the deals you can get. I recommend specializing, by brand, size or pattern. I sell on Ebay quite a bit, and I've found a few little niches that help support my hobby...both in factory knives and customs.

My ebay name is completely different than the one on here, though a few folks have found me by accident :D

Hi!

I just wanted to report back on the outcome of my ad in the local rag. I got one e-mail from a fella wanting to sell me a fix blade Case Kodiak and he was well aware of its value. I recieved another photo from a fella doing the same thing I was wanting to do. Ebay sales to support his collecting habit. No other calls. I guess it was a waste of $15 no doubt. Does anyone have any other ideas for knife finds for resale. Thanks folks

The smaller local Knife shows is where I pick up the best deals as well... For instance,, just recently, I purchased: 11 different 1979~82 Case pocket knives in MINT conditon, all in the original boxes for $15. per knife since I bought the whole lot... I have been selling them on eBay and to others for $40.00 to $60.00 each. This helps justify my buying (addiction) the Cripple Creek / Bob Cargills that I desire.

Best,
Anthony

Keep an eye open for closeouts and specials; be a bargain shopper.
I wish I had a truckload of those $30 Effingham Ek closouts (actually at the time $30 was all the money I had in the world and I could barely afford one of them). It's hard to predict the future though. I could've ended up with a truckload of $5 paperweights...
