I have been given knives for most of my life by friends, family, people who know I like knives and want to give me something they aren't using. Sometimes they are decent knives, sometimes they are chinese flea market crap. Over the last 10 years or so I have been giving back. I give knives as gifts. Not crappy ones, nor real expensive ones, but solid quality knives. Usually I'll gift one to somebody I can tell really needs one (usually the guy opening a box with his keys/teeth) or somebody I know would appreciate a well made tool etc. In the past couple of years I've gifted about a half dozen knives, all of them quality pieces. Lately knives have been coming to me from various sources, a few are pretty cool. Last month my dad sent me a box that contained: a small EDC-type khukri with the lion's head butt typical of tourist trade khuks, a USA made Rigid SS lockback that's super tight despite signs of heavy use, a Franklin Mint (no idea whatsoever to do with this one) Civil War battle commemorative lockback in a padded case, a Klein Tools hawkbill, and an unused, dead mint, Boye Basic 2 in 440C BDS. Then just last weekend I run into my step mom who gives me a CS Kudu and an American Blade (Chattanooga TN made by Parker IIRC) stockman pattern that despite being heavily used is tighter than most of my newer slippies and sporting nice wood with nickel silver bolsters. Anybody else have the knife karma thing come full circle where you're getting unexpected surprises like this?
