G'Day, I just received Ebay item #280051771442 which is an absolute mint "The Kentucky Rifle" America's Own 1750-1880. Tang: Schrade N.Y. U.S.A. CM1 Stainless. I paid US $31.06 and had absolutely no competition in bidding and it was listed under Schrade items.Have I missed something others know?
After reading the previous posts on this Commemorative Schrade which is supposed to be among one of the first of many commemoratives and made in 1972, and as I have already been caught with "vintage" Schrade Walden N.Y. U.S.A. Everlastingly Sharp Yellow handle Stockman which is in fact a repo made only months ago under licence and duping many buyers in Oz into believing they are the genuine Ellenville article as invariably touted by sellers, my question is have they also started making repos on commemoratives and is my Kentucky likely to be genuine?
Unscrupulous sellers are having a "field day" with the Chinese toy Schrades and passing off the repos fake Schrade Walden's as genuine Ellenville made on Oz Ebay. Many potential collectors must be lost at their first disappointing purchase. The repo Schrade Walden has inconsistant size brass liners and would never have passed the Ellenville scrutiny, but you dont find out until you buy the thing and get to examine it. My genuine Schrades always know they wont even talk to the fakes in my cabinet and most cant talk Mandarin anyway.!!
Another observation from an Aussie.I recently asked a question re the connection of smoking warning on a Copenhagen knife. I had no idea until I read your excellent responses that Copenhagen was a brand of cigarette as we never had that brand in Australia. What was obvious to you was perplexing to me...makes collecting even more interesting ..I did end up buying that Copenhagen. Thanks for reading this rather long ramble and appreciate any response.
