Have I inadvertently gotten a "safe queen?"

Well, my new knife came. Actually an ..old.. new knife. I had originally intended to order the one shown at BestKnives but discovered that the BM910 with the ...chisel grind.... was not an available item.
So I began searching and found ONE at an Oregon gun shop. Well, it arrived yesterday.
Now I'm wondering if this is a ...."collector".... knife. I have no need for a safe queen but on the other hand, I don't want to deprive those who collect em from getting something desirable.
IF....it is a collectible item that should not be carried, I will sell it and get a NEW 910 that would be a user. However, if it is not a big deal, I will use it as that's why I got it.
What do you think? Thanks.

My 1 of a 1000 BM Ares was no more valued than a regular production model. I carried it and used it and still got a good price for it when I sold it. The fact that mine said the same exact thing on the blade as yours didn't seem to help make it more desirable or hard to find so I'd say just use it. I'm not a BM afficinado or anything but based on the few I've had that have been so called limited numbers they didn't really bring much more if any at all than a regualr everyday carry knife of the same model.

You might check on ebay and see what they are going for there if any are listed yet.

1000 isn't a particularly limited run. Benchmade makes a lot of variants of knives so any increased value they might have gets lost. Too many of all kinds out there, and most are designed and used as users. Enjoy your new old knife. :)

My thinking exactly. 1000 is a ....LOT... for a "collector" item.

Now where's that fender I gotta cut up for scrap?

:D

Although a run of 1000 doesn't make a knife particularly collectible, it is more collectible than a normal production knife. Even if the knife's value isn't affected, it might be more desirable to a casual 'accumulator'.

You might place an ad in the Trade forum. Perhaps someone would trade with you?

The reason I don't "trade" it is cuz I looked for one because I ...wanted.. a chisel grind.
If it were worth 200-300 I would sell it and "make do" with the regular blade.
But for only a nominal "maybe" I'll just keep it and use it.
:)

I don't like the Emerson handle. The BM is more "comfy" and has the relieved round part at the heel. AND it is more closed to pocket junk. And most of the others are too blunt.

Congrats on your new "old" purchase. All knives were made to cut things! Use that sucka!!

If you have others to use and money to get another user, if you collect knives now or may in the future and if you like that particular knife then put it away and use another. There are a lot of people in the world and who knows what someone may value it at in the future. I keep my limited runs, if for no one else but myself.

Garage Boy, you should SEE my frikkin knives. They piss me off cuz I keep em nice an have fits when one gets a scratch.
I guess you'd call that ....."enjoying".... my knives. Hah!
:D
It's also why I always have a SAK Classic for opening mail and general pokin an scrapin.

Someday, I swear, I'm just gonna THROW a knife like I useta when I wuz a kid.
But same with the guns. Stupid things look NEW and I've had em for 40 years.
Goofy when ya think about it, cuz nobody ELSE will care for the dang things.
In the end, it's all a garage sale.
Oh phooey, now I'm depressed. Think I'll go oil a blade.
;)

i would use it, i have had 2 or maybe even 3 stryker CGs, 1 a prototype, sold 1 and swapped the other, back when i got the protopye i figured i had something, i was wrong, BM proto's are worth only a small premium and then only to BM collectors, the AFCK proto i have i bought for $75 and the guy didnt even mention it was a prototype (cool suprise though) point being if ya like it for a edc go for it, if ya think its gonna be worth even $200 it probably isnt, not in our lifetime anyway lol. nice knife though and ground right hand vs left FWIW.

& 1 other thing, all of mine had satin blades, not coated FWIW.
