This is my first spyderco and it gets 90% of pocket time and gets used as it should

I know all things wear out eventually and Ive used this one everyday for 3 years and its the one that got me hooked on spyderco for life

((ETA: click pic for video)) Up untill I noticed it today it has locked up like a fixed blade

Can this be fixed or should I retire it and just start carrying my manix 2 full time?

I have liner locks that have 50-60% lock up like yours, and I still use them. Im just a little more cautious when I carry them. If the knife only receives pressure from the cutting edge it should be fine.

Can't you send it in to spyderco? They would probably fix it.

That was my first thought but I have disassembled it several times over the years for cleaning and upgrading grip screws so warranty is gone.

If it is something that can be repaired pretty easily I will see about having it done if it is cost effective.

Will spyderco do the work?

I've never had to send anything in. I would call them and see what they say. It would be a shame to give up on a 3 year relationship with you knife lol.

I can't tell what the problem is. Judging by the picture, the lock still has plenty of life left.

As far as disassembly voiding your warranty, that's something that knife makers have to say to avoid having to deal with wannabe knifesmiths who break something then want someone else to pay for it. As "used" as your knife is, I doubt that the fact that the screws were removed and reinstalled a few times is that knife's biggest issue.

I foolishly stripped out the backspacer in my Military and had to pay $20 for Spyderco to install a new one. It took every bit of their stated 30 day turnaround, but I got my knife back as good as new.

That's my main concern.. Having to retire my military we have been thru so much :)

They may work on it. Shouldn't cost more than $20. Read here, http://www.spyderco.com/edge-u-cation/index.php?item=10 If not, then they will use the $5 check you sent to return your knife, and then you can retire it or try to fix it or have it fixed yourself.

Thanks for the info and link that gives me a starting point to go from.

MatthewSB, click the pic for the video.. The lock is slipping back with a little spine pressure so the blade has up and down play

What they are going to say is "Send it in". They have no idea what we are talking about when we send pictures and describe problems over the phone. It's always better to have the knife in hand and then they can truly tell what can and cannot be done. It looks like to stop pin needs replacing, the lockup will be fine once again. The most used Military I have is having it's 9th birthday soon. And it still locks up in the same place it did when i got it, maybe a milimeter later.

I just purchased a M390 Millie and it has the same issue. I wish it was stated in the ad but the member is a great guy and I really like the knife overall. I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread maybe you find a solution. Thanks

The M390 would probably be a warranty thing, but they might not be able to replace it if it isn't fixable.

On the old Millies I think one could adjust for wear (different pivot?) CS at Spyderco would know when they get it anyway..
