Hi All,

Heading to the US Virgin Islands next week for work, would like to take my BWM in my luggage. I FedEx'ed all of my equipment down and that didn't look like the way to send it, with international rates and taxes.

Anyone with experience taking knives there? You don't need a passport to get there (taking mine anyway) but all this hassle with shipping gear there has me nervous.

Oh yeah, and thoughts on bringing it back, I have a direct flight to the US, no stop in in another country.

Thanks!

I've travelled with knives and guns all over the US but the last time I did this was several years ago, did some even after 9/11 but times are changing all the time so I would just call the airline and ask them if there would be any problems with having that in your checked in luggage. I think more than likely, it won't be a problem. I haven't heard of any changes to the rules of flying with guns so I think the rules are the same. He he-Just don't try and bring it in your carry on-he he,-I know you wouldn't but could you imagine? That would land you on the front page with a picture of that huge knife to go along with! They wouldn't even call it a knife-It would read "man attempts to board plane with BUSSE BUSHWHACKER MISTRESS!"

as a u.s. territory, i wouldn't think there are different rules for traveling there than for anywhere else in the u.s.

ive traveled with fixed blades and folders just dropped in my luggage. never a problem.

Lol that reminds me of my last work trip a month or so back, a lady going through security here in Anchorage in the line across from me forgot a loaded pistol on her purse and sent it through the x-ray.

They didn't say anything to her, everyone was really calm they just called more people over.... and then she remembered on her own and started the shaking crying apologizing thing, I bolted to my gate in case they decided to lock the area down.

Wonder if she would remember that it was there when she needed it.....

Thanks Guys! I'm pretty sure it will be fine, would suck to lose it though. On that last work trip I carried my BWM everyday for two weeks on the Kuskokwim river here in AK, it's creeping up on the Sarsquatch on my favorite users list.

It's kinda luck of the draw.

I know an LEO/SAR from Canada that has had more than one knives stolen from him during "business" trips to the US.

Others can get through with about anything.

I have risked Infi only once in a checked bag on a flight. From Washington to Utah. I put a SS + sheath in a pair of socks, and stuffed those in a boot, then put socks on top of those.

I lucked out, but then on the return flight home, I had a B11 to add, so I just shipped both home to be safe.

You do run the risk of stolen knife when you check it. I would find out what kind of insurance is on the checked bags before I did this.

If insurance would cover, I would keep a pic and a receipt for the knife. Maye even a pic of the knife packed in the luggage.

Good thinking Bigfattyt. Viking, I would take his advice for sure, after all, this is one of your children we are talking about here. Must take precautions just in case any strangers happen to try and get their filthy paws on your loved ones.
