Please point me to online resources that are good (pictures are best for me) for putting a handle on my new Scandi blank. (It is essentially a Mora Stainless blank).

I need to learn how to do the wooden portions as well as metal spacers and the end cap.

Any help, resources, places to purchase things, would be great!

Thanks.

I was going to post the northcoastknives link, but mentor beat me to it. I would just say you don't need to drill the weep hole that they suggest.

You should also check out www.knifeforums.com and go to the scandi section. A lot of the members there do knife re-handle jobs, and they are a wealth of advice.

Get yourself some needle files, a drill (press is prefered if you have it). I use a bit just bigger than the width of the tang and drill a line of holes, then you a real thin saw or the drill bit to open them up to each other. This is necesary for the front piece that goes against the blade. You can get away with just drilling one big hole in the other pieces since you won't see them. A belt sander also helps alot in shaping the handles.

Sting - I saw the one a KF. I think I am going to find some good looking wood for the handle and some space material.

Talfuchre, leather makes a very good and easy to use handle material. Have you decided what you want to use as a bolster, and what you will use as a buttcap (if anything)?

Good point! Thin leather makes very good spacer material, or if you are so inclined, the entire handle can be made of thick leather, but the length of the handle is determined by the lenght of the tang, so it might not be the best option for a Mora.

Well, I have access to a lathe and a mill - so I can use any material I wish. I am thinking about machining some brass or aluminum for a bolster and an end cap.

I will also, likely, thread the tang to put an end nut on the knife.
