Have you all discussed this topic before? Accessorized Knife "AK"

I wish Chris Reeve made one “essentials” accessorized knife. It’s kind of on the lines of a multi-tool, but not with various blades.

I probably started this line of thinking because I mainly wish the knife had an integrated whistle….seems with all that space and tooling hole that some kind of whistle could be discretely incorporated. I refuse to admit that I’ve blown on and through the scales trying to get the knife to sing ☺

I then think that a version with inlays could house some small tweezers….handy when hiking and plucking out needles, brush and whatnot.

Not looking for a multi-tool replacement, just a survival accessorized Sebenza. It could be called the AK-Sebenza (Accessorized Knife).

What would your AK-Seb have?
If this has been discussed, would love to see links please.

You could make a 2 piece replacement scale with a Ti liner and a carbon fiber or G-10 top, you could actually just go for another bit of Ti. The top part could be machined to house small things like tweezers with out much trouble. I suppose one could use the SAK replacement tweezers or perhaps it might be an idea to use something like those "Uncle Bill's silver grippers" just to be a little different.

Mine would have a FireSteel striker incorporated somewhere on the knife so I wouldn't have to use the blade for striking sparks.
I spend quite a bit of time out on the mountain trails on day hikes and also do a lot of primitive back country camping and my FireSteel is an important part of my equipment.
The FireSteel has a separate striker that comes with it, but most of us discard that and use a knife blade.
The back of the blade will do if it has a sharp enough edge, otherwise the cutting edge is about the only option and using it for striking sparks will dull it slightly.
So, for me, the FireSteel striker or striking surface would be a welcome addition.

instead of a cabochon, they could put a compass inside :P

it would be funny to see if someone modified their handles to be bottle openers

if i had one thing to choose to have a AK seb......i'll stick with the topographic map cgg design with a compass :p

*edit* just saw desert hermits comment, second the fire steel. would love there to be something on the butt end of the seb, or a rough bead blast to give friction for the fire steel

The Sebenza and Umnumzaan are great bottle openers already, when the knife is closed you can pop the lid off with the flat of the blade behind the thumb stud. ;)

I think with a modded scale and perhaps even a new back spacer you could get a number of things to work as addons.

Thank you all for posting up ideas, love 'em! I think a wilderness ready Seb could be easily achieved with not much variation to original design...my goal was as minimalist as possible essential tool while still being a Chris Reeve knife (my favorite).
So fire-starter and compass cabochon seem like they could be incorporated while still keeping the streamline appearance....still need a whistle as I read that whistles are essential as one's voice gives out quickly when calling for help.

I'm no expert on whistles, I don't know off the top of my head how or if a whistle could be incorperated into a scale. I do know that you could use a lanyard or fob with a whistle on it though. A friend of mine has a cool little Ti whistle as a zip pull for his jacket, that could easily work on a lanyard too.

Haze, what are "Uncle Bill's silver grippers"?
Heading out to work, won't be able to reply as quickly.

These are them, they are high quality little tweezers. I used them all the time back when I was a forester, they are great for removing ticks or splinters and picking stuff out of cuts and grazes etc. :)

A tool to disassamble the knife is the only thing i can imagine - I mean it's a Sebenza not a SAK!
I like this knife because it has one blade and that's it.
A knife and nothing else -made for cutting.
YMMV

I saw a thread somewhere of a guy who adds tweezers to folders.I don't think the compass would be too hard to do either. The whistle might be a problem. I have to believe that if it wasn't you would see a SAK with one(Not much they won't put on that knife-but then again maybe there is one and I have'nt seen it) If you can get Mr. Reeves ear you might throw the idea past him. He might be inclined to do a small batch if the idea interested him. Interesting concept the AK, but until then I just carry a swiss card and whistle.

It's impossible to argue against the fact that the Sebenza is indeed a tool designed for single and specific purpose, so I won't. :p

I do think an after market off side scale that has "some things" going on would be quite workable though, what ever those things might be. Making a 2 piece scale with a machined out inner to accommmodate an item of some sort would be easy to do. I would personally avoid things like a compass as the steel blade will no doubt cause problems and compromise accuracy. I also just can't get my head round a Sebenza with a compass, it just sounds too "fisher price". :D

For my kid! (when i have one :p ) With all the graphics i've been seeing (lisa's recent one "the catch") thought it would be a *fun* design. Practical, of course not, but fun, hah.

I've been trying to wrap my head around a whistle mod, but just don't see how it could be done. the frames seem too thin( maybe the H seb would be thick enough  ). Would be fun to see someone draw something up.

red mag- it is a sebenza and not a sak, but what lisantica wants, lisantica gets(always faster than anyone here :grumpy:

Thanks all for adding to the discussion.
The whistle on a lanyard will likely do the trick....just thought it'd be cool to have it discretely incorporated somehow.
Those Uncle Bill's tweezers look nice and robust!
