Hey Guys,

because I have been into knives since I was a little boy I wonder if there are people out there who developed such a passion for blades not until they were already adults. Just wanted to know what you guys have experienced personally or with friends.

Cheers,
J5

Are you conducting some kind of research data together? Put me down under the "born with the gun & knife addiction" category. :D

Loving it too! Must be some aberrant genetic thing??

I have to say I was born addicted to guns and knives. Must be something about being part Sioux Indian. My grandfather was big into knives. He received a purple heart in WW 2 and it was a knife that saved his life.

Ive also been into knives since i was a young kid. Cant really remember what fascinated me about knives, but im still passionate about them, albeit now its more about function than looks.

I got a Victorinox Huntsman at the age of 10 and a few years later a Friedrich Herder, the same model as my father and grandfather carried for decades. But in those years I wasn't really into knives. They were just tools that I used for fishing, playing in the woods and for helping on the farm. I think it was only three years ago that I got into knives.

I've always thought knives were "cool" as a little kid, that's what I'd think. Guns too, those where just as "cool".:D

I'll credit (blame?) an Uncle that took me into a World of Wonder.... Workshop/Garage/Man Cave.
Guns, Knives, Ammo loading, Buick GS, it was like nothing I had ever seen and I was maybe 12 years old. That was it.
At 50..... I have continued the tradition and now my sons talk about guns, knives, and fast cars.
And so it goes.

I've been hooked since I can remember. Me and a buddy used to go to the local Army/Navy stores and drool over the milsurp stuff like old bayonets and whatnot. We also had a local mall with a cutlery store and we used to drool there too! My dad was in the military so that probably had a lot to do with it. Plus spending a lot of time outdoors, using knives, it was hopeless for me and I wouldn't have it any other way! Same with guns!

My knife hobby/obsession didn't really develop until my late 20's. I don't know what happened, something just clicked and I became fascinated by knives. Of course it helps that my father grew up in the woods and has that sort of primal appreciation for knives which transfers over to the following generation(s). I love talking knives with him.

My grandfather gave me small slipjoint when i was 5 or 6,and i carved my own knives :D,i carved so much knives that my mother one winter day spent couple hours feeding the furnace with them,
I knew i needed something that she cannot burn.

My mother bought me my first knife when I was seven to sharpen pencils in school. It wasn't illegal yet. Even many years later in Engineering school, I had pen knife with for the same reason. Most our students had. I like knives since than.

I have been a knife and gun enthusiast since I was little. Can't really remember the first knife I owned but I do remember having a K-Bar when I was about 10. Used to play with it all the time and used it to cut up bait for fishing. Guns were always a fascination for guns from small as well. Dad used to take me shooting birds when I was about 10 and got to love shooting and later hunting. I became a cop in later life so guns and knives have always played a part in my life and continues even now in retirement.

I LOVED knives since the first time I saw First Blood, when I was about 6-8 y/o. Been HOOKED ever since!

I've liked knives ever since Boy Scouts. They haven't been my main hobby but lately they are starting to be.

Yep, born with a love of knives and guns. I remember, as a 5 or 6 year old, telling my parents that I wanted my nickname to be "knife" (of course, that never came to pass).

When I was only 3 Y old, I tried to fix little pieces of metal on wood pieces... so I think I'm born with some kind knife's gene.

Guilty as charged! :D
I just as most other men have loved guns and knives from the beginning.
When I was three years old my father picked me up and took me into the woodworking shop, I attempted to jump out of his arms to get at the tools and cried when he tried to take me out.
I loved guns and knives since my father, brother, uncles, cousins, and grandfather all owned and loved them.
I grew up around Men who loved Guns & Jesus & their wives & Their Knives.
It, (tools, guns, knives, the outdoors, cars, Hunting, fishing, camping, and anything else you can think of that men love) Is all hardwired into us from birth and we (men) will never stop wanting these things.

( i apologize if i left anything out edit if needed )

For as long as I can remember I've been obsessed with pointy/sharp things. It's rather weird, but before I got into knives I used to carry around safety pins just so that I could run my fingers over something sharp.

Got my grandpa's barlow at age 6 after he passed. My dad got me a Buck 110 at age 10. Then I started collecting my own.

As a kid, I thought my uncle's 119 was the pinnacle of knives. Just the coolest thing. He gave me a 110 for Christmas. Been a knifeknut ever since.

My wife thinks I am crazy. "What does a grown man need so many knives for?" My answer is "are knives for kids?" I then remind her of her 300+ pairs of shoes. Holy Crap, we have a walk in closet the size of a small bedroom-and she has so many shoes, that she has to rotate them in and out of the garage.

I enjoy my knives (and guns) and I enjoy using them in the out of doors with my boys (I have 4 kids-all boys).
