What I mean is how many have bought a knife for reasons not based on use or utility or rather for reasons like this is cool looking or for zombie killing. I ask because I have quite a few knives but realized that only about 3-5 get used on a regular basis. A few others on special occasions and the majority not at all I jus like them. For instance I own a camillus bk7 while I like it I don't use it because it's too big for normal carry however I went and purchased a kabar bk2 that weighs even more. It doesn't get used either but when buddies come over I can say that's not a knife this is a knife.

you should try and plan a way to get use out of your unused "Zombie killing" knives. that way you get out of the house and get to use them. Also last time i checked the whole zombie thing is under control :D

.....but for how long....

I have been given and purchased all kinds of knives that now I wonder why I bought them. Some of the crappy knives I have, I bought off friends when they were strapped for money - I was trying to help them out and not insult their dignity in a roundabout way. Others I thought, "Hey, that there is a cool little knife." Later I said, "Now that I have it at home, not so much a cool little knife.":barf:

I've bought crappy knives simply because I didn't have one on me at the time but I didn't want to spend money at the moment. Does that count?

I mean, "it looked cool", "it's been discontinued and it looked cool", and "it looked cool" seem like the only real reasons I buy ANY knives in the first place.

well, it didnt seem dumb at the time..... you know, a new lock method/ blade shape/grind/ handle material etc. I do really try (really dear) not to duplicate and have a dozen that would be used for the exact same things or course but after all "I like it" aint all that dumb a reason to spend money.

No not trick question and I doesn't have to be a crappy knife. One of my first good knives was my benchmade nimravus I really like the knife to this day it's just I have found lighter more ergonomic knives like the rc3 that I like to use more. I bought my Yukon belt knife while living in sc and used it for skinning game after a good hunt. Since I have been in Texas I have not been hunting and don't know if I will anytime soon so it's sits in the drawer. My m3 trench knife is just a collectors piece. I don't regret any of my purchases but have noticed how many knives I have that I don't use but yet always find an exscuse for one more. For instances my next three purchases will be
Esee 4 or 5 can't make up mind
HI 18" sirupate wood handle
Cold steel bushman
Kellam fang pukko

I'd say the dumbest of dumb is when you buy a knife you can't RESALE, after you've realized just how stupid stupid can be..

I have multiple of repeats because the knife is cool in this color and is collectible, its really dumb to my wife she just doesn't 'get it'..

Every time I buy a knife its for a dumb reason, but at least I'm smarter now as every knife I buy I can resale for close to same value if not more..

jamal,

I'm starting to grasp your point, I too have many knives that aren't used..

I'm actually considering thinning out the herd of 'collectibles' and purchasing knives I actually use "most" the time..

In dress clothes or going out I use a 'gentlemen' clip folder, such as a delica (color to match clothes of course:D) or similar..

But for edc in any condition I have an Izula that is being beat to death, and now ordered a HEST fixed for edc.. I have woods knives such as CS kukri, srk and the likes this is for my outdoor hiking/camping activity and or course get used less as I don't get out as often as I like

I've bought some very expensive knives, simply because I didn't have them when I needed them, and now I don't need them. Still no regrets.

I am considering a Bk2 with some micarta handles. I have a rc5 that I do not like the handle on for chopping. Any reason you dislike the bk2? I was also considering an S1.

Truth be told, every knife that I've bought after I got my SAK in 1985 was unnecessary.
I could maybe justify one of my large fixed blades, but all folders after the SAK were essentially irresponsible purchases.
The SAK has been used far more than any other knife I've had, especially camping/backpacking.
