Have you ever been surprised by cheap knives?

I saw the knife in the photo at a local seller and bought it for only 2 dollars. I only liked the shape, I had no expectations from the knife, it had a very poor quality leather sheath. The workmanship was very poor, even the edge was not angled properly and the edge was out of alignment towards the tip. I took this knife camping with me, I thought I would batoning it once or twice and break it or if it had a very soft steel it would bend. I spent five hours with this knife, batoning, chopping, etc. I did everything that should not be done with a knife in the woods and at the end of the day it was still sharp enough to cut hair, it was not bended at all and there was no play in the handle. It was a very surprising experience for me. It has nothing to do with the knife. I wonder if I was so surprised because I had no expectations. I wanted to share this with you. Have any of you experienced similar things?

My neighbor gave me a few Ozark Trail folders which surprised me by closing unexpectedly on my fingers. I overtightened the pivots and put them in my tackleboxes as bait knives.

I think if the opposite had happened then you would have been surprised.

My favorite budget knife is this Marttiini. It was called both the Black Bear Skinner and the Mini Chopper, and for me it’s been a great kitchen/camp cooking knife.

It was $14 and came with one of the best edges I’ve ever experienced out of the box -polished convex and quite sharp.

The edge has held up to years of general kitchen bashing and has never developed any chips or rolls.

I only wish I could find another online but they’ve been discontinued for awhile…
