Have you ever broken a single blade folding knife (except Swiss Army types)? What were you doing when it failed? Were you surprised at how quickly it failed or were you surprised at how long it took abuse?

Thanks!

Dropped a Buck 110 from a ladder to concrete while stapling up plastic sheeting in a greenhouse. About a 15 foot drop. Snapped the blade off. It had already taken a LOT of abuse but had many more years of 'normal' abuse to go until its life was 'cut short'. Opening cans. Hammering small nails with the bolsters (into sheetrock). Opened thousands of boxes. Trimmed plants. Pried large staples. Lots of cutting. That is what my 110s are for. Using hard. I know they can do it and I expect it of them.

I broke a Camillus EDC while trying to pry apart a cardboard display. Unfortunately some smart guy that designed it thought that it was necessary to make it out of welded steel, and then cover it with cardboard. So I am prying at this cardboard and SNAP, right by the thumbstud!

Before that it had endured much more abuse with no real ill effects though. I had used it to pry, cut, and stab just about everything imaginable while working in a store.

LMAO, no but I sure want to sometimes. At least where I work now I am provided with boxcutters. In fact I have like a case sitting on my dresser, much cheaper when they break.

Though last weekend the pharmacist was going nuts because his plastic knife was missing. I felt like pulling out my knife and doing the old "that's not a knife...THIS IS A KNIFE!" gag. I thought better of it and just took the pill counting blade to his throught.

I broke the tip off my SE Delica cutting a rope free from a fouled boat propeller. The rope was wound very tight around the shaft, I had to really jam that knife in there to cut it free. I wasn't so much surprised that the knife broke as I was surprised that I was able to complete the job with the broken blade.

I took it home and reprofiled it, now it stays clipped to my life jacket at work.

I broke the tip (about 1/2-3/4") off of a stainless Delica one time. I was trying to dig a bullet out of a tree when it snapped. I knew I shouldn't be doing it before the blade went, but I was "trying to be careful" . Since then, I have dedicated my Cold Steel SRK as my Bullet-Prying Knife!!! No problems since. :)
