Have you ever carved anything with your RAT?

You know, go into the woods, find a sturdy stick and just shave away? I love doing that sometimes.

yup! made a walkin stick yesterday out of a small tree with a nice root ball looks like an irish black thorn style

 Very cool Does it damage your blade at all? I love to carve things out of wood but it's debatable if the novelty is worth the sharp edge.

BTW I have woods in the back of my house! such a good resource...

A good edge on good steel with a good heat treatment should last a good while. :D

Whittling and carving shouldn't do too much of a number on your edge. If you have any worry just bring a pocket sharpener with you. :)

Made some fuzz sticks, trap parts, etc with an RC6.

The blade will, of course, dull after a while, but carving wood won't damage the blade.

I'm working on a wood chain made out of a Quake & Aspen tree branch.

I'm up to three links so far. The branch is really too small to go much farther. I will post a pic once I'm done/give up.

i do most of the rough by full on chopping and can still shave some hair after.

like willieboy said just my thumb...

1095 what a great steel

I've been working on carving a face into a branch I picked up the other day. I leave it outside where I smoke. Each time I light up a cigarette I work on it a little bit.

I've whittled a few branches with my Izula and RC-4. They work great and hold up just fine.

used my izula and a tramontina to carve a spoon a while back. the belly on that little knife is perfect for it.

I'd lIke to see pic's of that, I've always liked the blackthorn canes, I even have a book on how they were traditionally made.

I carved a rough spoon with my RC 3, a bit ungainly but it would work.

When I'm sitting around a camp fire I love to whittle. Sometimes I just shave wood, but mostly I wind up carving out knives, forks or spoons.

I made a bow drill set the other day. Probably gonna d some spoons and stuff at some point.

I've done plenty of toothpicks :D

pretty much just pointy things of varying sizes if I think about it, to hold something down to the ground.
