Have you ever found an old knife you forgot you put in storage?

Sitting here reading about the Schrade Sharpfingers I remember that I bought one back around 2001 and learned to sharpen on it. It must be a USA-made model, right? I carried it a lot, skinned my small game with it for a few years, then really got into knives and bought some super-steel super-thick super-long knives that were obviously much better for carrying all day just to skin some rabbits. Cutting those stubborn rabbit feet is a job only suited for S90V and more expensive.

I put that Schrade SOMEWHERE in my storage shed and will have a fun time digging through old gear boxes looking for it. I don't remember it's condition but I know it was scratched and the leather sheath was dark brown from use and nicely broken in. The Delrin handles were scratched on one side from walking through dense Aspen stands while looking for Woodcock during their Fall migration.

Do you have any knives that are stored somewhere but you don't know where? Have you ever found a forgotten knife by accident? I'd love to hear your story.

I found a SAK in an old toolbox last week.
Can't remember when (or why) I tossed it in the box. Most of the tools in there were cheap throwaway screwdrivers and "Buffalo Brand" wrenches.
While the scales were in decent shape considering, the blades were very sharp.
Cleaned her up and placed her into the "collection".

I was essentially oblivious to this Schrade USA 108OT for the better part of ~20 years or so, as the knife rested quietly in the very back of my desk's top drawer. I don't even remember where or under what circumstance I acquired the knife, it'd been out of my mind for so long. For most of that time, I was ignorant to the value and beauty of Schrade's older knives, and it waited very patiently in that desk drawer until I finally 'saw the light'. :)

On the mention of the SAK in the old toolbox, I unfortunately left a Victorinox in a toolbox, in the covered bed of my pickup, for a couple or three years. This was while I lived in central Texas, and the humid air took a toll on that one. It was actually rusted shut when I came across it again; had to soak it in WD-40 for 3-4 days to loosen it up, so I could clean it up and salvage it. Some pitting on it now, but it's back in faithful service.

I was digging through some old boxes in the garage a couple months ago looking for an old Zippo. They were boxes of my stuff from high school and college, so they range from 10-20 years in age. I found a Buck 455 in one of the boxes that vaguely looks familiar, but I don't think it was mine. I asked my parents and my brother, and nobody else remembers it. I have no idea how it would have gotten in there except that I must have put it in there. I put it to the diamonds and it got scary sharp real quick. I can't post pictures, as it has a forbidden feature, but I thought that it fit with this thread.

Not an old knife that I had forgotten about but a couple years ago I was digging around at my parents house and found a couple boxes of my grandfathers knives. One was an old cigar box that had lots of folders, old Schrades(272, 293 and Old Timer 340T), a small Boker, an Eye Brand stockman, some Imperials like Frontiers and such, Westerns, Camillus and some cheaper stuff. Some were clearly gifts from Transwestern Pipeline (like some of the firearms I have also) or other companies. The other box is an old ammo case with fixed blades like a Kabar, Schrade 152 Sharpfinger, Buck 119, '67 Camillus pilot survival knife, some buffalo skinners and other knives that looked to be homemade including one that is unfinished. I never got the chance to meet the man but from what I know he was an outdoorsman and that is apparent from the condition of some of the knives, they weren't used lightly. Makes me happy to have these in my possession and slowly been cleaning them up trying to maintain the patina and restore an edge.

That's an awesome find!
