Hey all;
Been gone from the boards for a while and now that I'm moving into a new line of work, I thought I would peek back in. (Formerly known as KnifeClerk)

My question is pretty simple: Have you ever been so satisfied with a knife that you stopped feeling the bight for another? Now, I've been selling knives for a VERY long time, and if I may say, we had an EXCELLENT selection to boot. But there have been two knives (quite inexpensive) that I have so fallen in love for that I just don't want anything else.

The first is my "ESEE" BRK 1 Zancudo. It has a great action. The AUS 8 holds a very nice edge and sharpens very easily with ceramic. It's a magnificent blade shape (just like a beefed up SAK blade.) And it fits the paw so naturally that I just have to carry it every day. As soon as I switched it to Tip-Up carry, I haven't been able to go a day without it.

The second piece has turned into my go-to fixed blade: Cold Steel Smatchet. I don't get out hunting as much as I would like, so pretty much the only time I need a fixed is when I'm out clearing brush, chopping wood, or just throwing for shits and giggles. It has a wicked point, and a very nice, wide blade. The balance feels amazing (one of the reasons it throws so well.) Also, the weight is so minimal that I can hike for days and never feel weighed down by it. I can sharpen it with damn near anything, and it does a stand up job holding that edge that was put on it. Downside: Yes, I wish it had a better sheath. Planning to see if my fiancee wants to sew it up and do a few mods to the suspension when I get back home from CO.

So my question again: Have you ever just felt like you didn't need to buy another knife?

No, but I'm getting there. I'm getting ready to thin the herd and sell a bunch off. I've gotten so used to my Vic Climber that I seldom need anything else. My recently purchased Spyderco Manix 2 in S110V just might be the last one for quite a while.

In certain categories, yes. For example, I have an ESEE Laser Strike, a DPX HEST (fixed) and a Boker Rold. For me, that pretty much covers "outdoor knives". There are lots of other knives in that category that I like, like the Ratmandu or the TOPS Pathfinder School. But then I always think "what can I do with that knife that I can't with the ones I own" and that keeps me from buying them (at least for now lol). With folders, I keep going back to my Rat-1, but I have a Kabar Mule on the way.

I kinda alternate between hobbies, too. Now that the weather is nice again, the bikes are my main priority, so I spend most of my disposable income there. Gas, tires, parts etc. Come winter, it goes back to knives and other stuff. Overall, I'm afraid its never gonna stop though. :(

Yes and no, but at the time I would say no and usually no. I probably have never been completely content with my collection, but have knives that I absolutely love and have no problem carrying everyday. They work well and are very enjoyable, but I still had knives on my wish list that I really want and I also have been stepping up my knife game and when I get some custom folders (only have production folders and custom fixed so far) that might change me completely.

I see what you're saying. I DO still have knives that I want, but not to the degree that I used to. Maybe it's because I worked around them for so long, and could play with them in my old store, but I don't feel the need to rush out and buy anything these days. And when I think about it, I can't imagine anything replacing my current EDC's.

I definitely don't need another knife but I will probably buy a few more in my life. I am trying to be a lot more fussy and take a lot more time deciding what I really want.

I've had a few knives that slowed me down a bit, but none have completely eradicated the desire for all other knives.

I have become pickier about new knives, though. So it takes me a while to find something I really like, and it's usually pricey and it also isn't easy to get it in my country.

I wish I have gotten stuck, but every time I think I do I get back on here and its game over. I have more than enough blades to last me multiple life times. I think sometimes I enjoy the hunt more than the blade. Its a sickness!

Yep I have been in a similar situation for the past few years. I ordered a Canadian belt knife from one of the makers on this forum and I have not really felt the need for another knife in the same size range since (~ 4 in. blade). I did buy a couple after this and all I could muster was a half-hearted "meh." I also have a Condor barong that has put all my other large blades (knives and machetes) in the closet. Hell, I've given most of them away.

So yeah, I know how you feel. Due to this, I sometimes feel a little out of place on these forums since I almost never have anything new to contribute. Working in a knife store sounds like it was cool while it lasted though.

Yes... but I still have more knives I'm waiting on.

I also have that Condor Barong. Great machete, wonderful sheath, love the balance. Great knife. I was a bit surprised when the Smatchet beat it out of my line up.

Nope, never got stuck, I could always find a knife I want or don't have yet but that's just me YMMV. ;)

Now if you were asking the same question about watches, then yes... the Rolex Deepsea is my be all - end all watch.

I would love to know more about that knife, please :)

Yes. I haven't felt the desire to buy anything new in a while. Victorinox Alox Cadet is the knife that sort of triggered that, it's the only thing I carry now.

since I was young ( 10 yo:) ) I've been searching the perfect knife...now I have more than 100 knives, so.... :)

I notice that i bought a ton of Zt's that i cannot and probably will not carry in a urban environment unless there is a shtf situation.
So i mostly carry a griptilian, a opinel no 7 and sometimes a PM2

That leaves me with several fixed blades that get use once or twice a year when camping.

It's not that i don't want any other knives. I lovvvvve knives. It's just that it's starting to dawn on me that i have little use for them other than collecting.
One day will have to explain to my GF why i own 3 Zt0200's. I just soooo love that thing. It's like having three pretty, smart, caring, helpful blonds that now how to shut up, and know their place. (hahaha)

Since I only go camping once or twice a year, I'm set with fixed blades. I have a Ka-bar U.S.M.C. short, a BK-14, and a Mora #2 that I mainly use. I also have a couple medium grade "survival knives" stocked with all kinds of stuff. I

As far as folders go, and given my new suburban surroundings, I've come to like the spyderco dragonfly. Mainly the old-style ones. I also like the delica 3 models as well. I love the light weight, pointy blade tips, and thinness of them. IMO these are the ideal knife for me if I am going to dedicate myself to always carrying a knife. I could carry a delica 3 for the rest of my life and be good.

I do have a few other beefier folders, and have an Emerson/Kershaw knife on order, but I don't see myself buying many more knives in the future after that. I figure one knife could potentially last the rest of your life depending on how you treat it. This is the first thing I tell myself when I think I need a new knife.
