Most people think cold steel has some of the worlds strongest sharpest knives:D. But has one ever failed you or even broke? The worst i have had is a bent tip on a thrower.

I tried to break the pendleton lite hunter
Pretty resilient and I gave up

I have a friend who loves cold steel and SOG.

I wouldn't take em for free... just preference.

However his cold steel tips are all broken.

I do like this one he has, tanto tip and has ray skin handle. Don't know the name, but it is a decent fixed knife.

I don't own any Cold Steel knives, but yes, any knife can break if you really try to.

I owned two Voyagers with six inch blades (I believe the six inch blade was discontinued). I found both to be difficult to close and one did not open on enertia.

I broke the tip off my finn bear when I was living off the grid in Hawaii trying to stab a hole in a coconut, but it still exceeded my expectations being a $15 knife.

I have also had the lock fail on a Ti Light folder from throwing. it would fold when I stuck the knife, but it also made made me wonder if it would fold on my fingers if I ever executed a hard stab with it.

I have a cold steel mackinac hunter that should have been devistated long ago, but is still going strong. I cut up a bunch of carpet and pried up boards with it just the other day. I cant believe the lockup is still SO solid.

COLD-STEEL-SRK.jpg

Cold Steel SRK - It was brand new when I decided to use it to cut down a tomato plant last fall, it chipped during the first use. I sent it in to Cold Steel, and they sent it back with a screwed up edge the whole length of the blade, and some surface chips on the edge at the belly. It chipped again when I cut down a dog tick. I have sharpened it myself a few times, and there is still some evidence of the surface chips - I haven't gotten a chance to cut anything with it since though.

I suspect a poor heat treat. I'm hoping that it was just the edge, and that I've gotten to a tougher part of the blade. They offered to let me send it back again, but my faith in their ability to get it right was less than my dislike of the run around. I consider it a 115$ lesson, but if the knife works this summer at least I can say I salvaged some of the value of the knife.
