Have you ever lost a knife?

This has come up in several posts about carry knives--Have you ever lost a knife? How did you lose it? How did you feel about it? Did you change anything to prevent it in the future? Is losing a knife occasionally inevitable?

I once had a Camillus US Army folding knife. You know, the all stainless steel one, like their Boy Scout knife minus the brown plastic handle. I had it on a nylon cord so I could run around without fear of losing it. Then I lent it to a friend of mine, who swung it around and threw it. It's somewhere in the woods now. I have since replaced it. I love that knife.
A) If you don't want to lose a knife, don't lend it to people.

I had a Delica which I took EVERYWHERE (except high school). I had it clipped to my pocket one day at the mall. I reached for it later that day, and it wasn't there. I'm pretty sure it fell off while I was trying pants on. That's my only guess. I went back to the changing room to look for it, but no luck.

B) Don't trust clips as your only defense against losing a knife. If I had put a cord on the Delica, like I did with my Camillus folder, I would still have it.

I'd say it's a fair bet that everyone (who carries a knife on a regular basis) will lose one at some point, unless you take extreme precautions to prevent doing so.

Has anyone hear NOT lost a knife?

I have not lost one in quite some time. I have had them fall out of my pocket in the past though. Now I find myself checking to see if whatever I am carrying is still with me on a regular basis.

Once. BM 350 Pardue. Fell out of my pocket during a "scuffle" many moons ago. Nice little folder; I'd gotten it in plain-edge for airline travel. After getting a small Seb I forgot all about it.

Some years ago, I was in India and handed my Spyderco Delica to an Indian to shimmy up a pole and cut down some wires for me. Well I turned around, got distracted, and then he was gone. They all looked alike and could not find the man that had my knife. I was very disappointed. After returning home, I had my pictures developed and in one of them, there was my knife in the hands of a very happy Indian, smiling, standing right next to me holding up the knife. Little did I know at the time. Oh well. That was a good excuse to get new one!

I've lost more than I care to think about. When we were kids we went through Imperial Jack-masters almost on a weekly basis. Laid them down while fishing and forgot them. At $1.49 each, it was more than the weekly allowance could stand. I'm happy to say I've only lost one in the last 23 years, a Gerber LST. It fell out of my back pocket when I pulled a pair of gloves out.
If you carry a knife all the time, you are bound to lose one, eventually.

Elim....I feel for you, man.

Lost a Terzoula Ti ATCF about a year ago. It had been misplaced for years before that!

This time it's gone for good though, as I set it down out in public after using it. I know better now....hence the signature.

Still...

When i was six my grandmother gave me my granfathers pocket knife when he died. It was a turtoise handled jack knife, and i thought i was in heaven. Every day i would sit on her steps and whittle. Three days later i lost it, and ever since then ive been buying knives. That was over 25 yrs ago and mmmmmm i still havent found that knife!...lol!!!!!....but its still sad i cant replace it.

The SAK that I had carried constantly for several years slipped out of my pocket while turkey hunting this spring. I know it's probable location and will try to retrieve it during deer season.

I lost my CRKT M16-14 at work.It fell out of my pocket at some point during the night without me noticing. I work in the public, so someone wound up with a very good knife for free. I missed playing with the Carson flipper and had to order another one.

Have you ever lost a knife?
---> Yes.

How did you lose it?
---> I have no good idea.

How did you feel about it?
---> I was amazingly pleased that I could give someone the chance to find a $120 knife.

Did you change anything to prevent it in the future?
---> Yes, I now do an pat-inventory of all my pockets, regularly throughout the day.

Is losing a knife occasionally inevitable?
---> I frick-fracking hope not. Though given the power of Mr Murphy, maybe. But remember, "Luck is the residue of preparation".
