Okay, I might catch flack for this, but im just curious; Have you ever been planning to make a knife purchase, and on a whim got something else instead?

I saw a zero tolerance 0700 at a local gunstore before work. I couldnt stop thinking about it, so I went back to pick up the ZT. Upon browsing before making my purchase, I saw a pistol that I fell in love with.

So, I went home without the ZT. Curious if anyone here has had a similar experience.

PS. Im going back for that ZT...

I have not bought a knife in the sense that I was gifted a knife (Sebenza CF Large).

I've never bought a knife in a brick and mortar store either though...

Yeah, I try to avoid buying knives when I can't afford it. I buy it anyway. No wonder my wallet's always empty.

The biggest deterrent for me from buying certain knives is size. I love the look and design of the Spyderco Vallotton. But I'm pretty sure it's too big for my tastes. Same goes with the Benchmade 710.

Since I buy stuff online. I don't get distracted and buy something else instead of what I was intending to get.

Not so much as changing my mind on a whim as handling the knife and finding out it didn't appeal to me and buying something else instead. That's why I like to buy at the closest good brick-and-mortar store. The prices are a bit higher than on-line, but I wind up saving money because a lot of the knives I thought I would buy turned out not to suit me.

There have been many knives I've liked from looking at pictures and others who have owned the knife on here, but I've been happy with the 4 or 5 I do own. I'm commited to saving for the future so it's been easy to just look and not buy. There are a few I have my eye on but I'm not an impulse buyer so it will have to be a knife I 100% want before making the decision to buy it.

This thread seems to be going in two directions: 1) not buying one knife in favor of another, and 2) buying strictly on impulse.

I've done both. I've always been curious about the DPx HEST Original (Rowan) so I recently decided to buy one. But while price shopping on the net I came across the HEST II Assault and bought it instead. Not a bad knife but I probably would have been cool with the Original. I guess the Lionsteel name and G10 swayed me.

My worst impulse buy was a Shrade Extreme Survival SCHF5. I'm a sucker for neck knives and the picture on Amazon pulled me in for some reason. I'm still not sure why 'cause it really doesn't meet my standards. On a total whim I added it to whatever else I was purchasing that day.

Then the knife arrived and I got my first look at the gimmicky mall ninja sheath (note the button triggers an LED light). :(

Not sure why I didn't do a bit more research on the knife. I would have immediately dismissed it simply based on the stupid sheath. I gave it to the first teenager I could find (my son-in-law).

The vast majority of time, I'm not buying a knife. Not buying one right now, for instance. Then, for the knives that look stupid, or silly, or are not built for tasks I need to do....I'm not buying them in particular 100% of the time.

So, yes.

LOL! We've got a 3rd thread direction, and the most obvious if you take the thread title literally.

Yep, I'm planning on not buying a knife later this afternoon. After all, it's not my birthday.

Many, many times. I constantly browse ebay for knife deals, and more often than not pass on them for one reason or another, even if it's something I want.
