Left my house this morning and forgot my Knife!! What a Day.... keep reaching for it only to grab me, I probably look like some
mentally disturbed masochistic fondler to the casual observer, "Look Mommy that strange man keeps grabbing at his pockets".
Ahhhhhhh! RUN!!!!!

Anyway, almost turned around and went back for it at one point driving in circles yes....no.....yes.....no.....don't be silly....you don't be silly...
Decided wrong and I've been off balance all day. Sandwiches not cut, letters not open.....I didn't even finish my morning cup of coffee because it lacked the proper vent hole in the lid (the little hole provided serves no purpose at all).
Worst part, I had nothing to play with in the bathroom (that didn't sound right did it?) You know what I meant.
I will not let this happen again.
Life is too short to not be properly equipped and an XM in the pocket is a must :)

Is this what the future holds? Forgetting my knife? What if it gets so bad I even forget I forgot and carry nothing at all OR
forget my pants.
What if I forget my pants and leave the house .....naked carrying nothing but my Knife!

This could be bad.

I've done similar with everything from my must EDC items to my hat, sunglasses or cologne, etc. Sometimes just running too quickly to remember everything. So, I duplicate the necessities in a grab-n-go bag or keep a spare this-or-that in my vehicles / vehicle bags.

What's also awkward is flying to a knife show (or anywhere) and leaving your always carried knives at home. I trust TS* only so far, and funky knife laws in some places can cause headaches.

Yep, I use these things far too often to be without one.

I'm sitting in ATL airport right now, on a layover waiting for my next flight. I was just thinking of how much I wish I could have a knife right now. I'm sitting in the Delta lounge opening packs of biscuits with my teeth! I WANT MY XM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, I'd settle for a Spyderco right now!

Argh!!! Nightmare scenario Rubi!!! You shoulda went back for it! :)

I forgot my Copper Investigator Pen today...been buggin' me all day too!!!

Luckily I have 4 knives on me though..wait why the hell do I need 4 knives on me??? Oh well, luckily I have 4 knives on me though! :D

I absolutely hate these little one day business trips I have to go on because I hate checking a bag just to have my knife with me. So I go without for a day and it SUCKS!!!!!! So I know exactly what you are talking about Rubi!

I'm with ya. I hate it when I forget something at home. Three things I have with me at all times...my knife, my wallet, and my iPhone. I feel strange if I'm missing one of those.

My traveling rule has been that if it is less than a 12 hr drive, that is what I do. That way I have my knives and guns with me, plus no delays, car rentals, TSA BS , or missing luggage.

The times I do travel by air I have a Leatherman Wave in my checked luggage.

A couple of years ago I flew from Central N.Y. to Houston. I had a few days down time so I decided to drive to San Antonio to see the Alamo, where two of my favorite heros, Jim Bowie (go figure) and Davy Crockett fought and also a gift shop which sells replica Bowie Knives.

As a child watching Walt Disney movie the Alamo I expected to see this behemoth structure rising out of the dessert, however after 170 years of a growing civilization I was having a difficult time locating the home of many a childhood dreams. Although I was traveling alone my wife's voice was heard telling me to pull over and ask that guy with a speedo riding a bike directions to the Alamo. I instinctively refused to give in, I know I was close, I was on Crockett Blvd so all I needed to do was drive in circles for another half hour.

Okay I give up, I drove into a 7-11 store to get a some bottled water and casually asked the clerk behind the counter where the Alamo was located. Unfortunately I was speaking English and none of the employees got the memo about being able to speak English. A customer heard me asking directions ( ok there I said it, my wife would be happy if she knew) and told me there was no Alamo car Rental place around here, but Enterprise was two blocks from here. I tried to explain that I was looking for the "Alamo" to no avail, no one ever heard or was ever taught about that historic battle. I resigned myself after hearing only Spanish being spoken, that maybe we lost that war with Mexico.

Then I heard this booming Texan voice say, "hey Yankee, you looking for the "Alamo?" I looked over near the beer isle and saw this cowboy with the hat and chaps, he said come outside, and I'll show you. We walked outside and he drew me a map with his finger in the dirt parking lot, in the shade of his F350 pickup with Cat Diesle Mudflaps and the Easy Rider gun rack in his rear window complete with a couple of rifles.

Two minutes down the road on Crockett Blvd. there it was a small structure called the Alamo. Once inside I could hear the rifles and cannons going off, over on that wall I could see Davy Crockett swinging old "Betsy" knocking off several of Santa Anna's swarming troops. Then over there lying sick on his bed with pneumonia Jim Bowie was able to stand up, and with his famous knife fight off an ever increasing mob of soldiers. I could hear Col Travis belting out orders to man that cannon, the smoke was everywhere.

After spending time within the thick Alamo's walls made me appreciate the sacrifice these men made, now off to the Gift Shop to purchase an "Original Bowie Knife"

As Usual F.O., a very entertaining read :)

I wholeheartedly agree with the radius of travel and the decision to Drive with ALL required equipment, comfortably ensconced behind the wheel and content with with the company of ones thoughts.

F.O. has once again managed to take me from the screen of my iPad into a grand moment of experience. Thanks! Love the bit about the Texan drawing the map in the shade of his F350, brought a tear to my eye.......

Great post, felt like I was there with you when reading it!

Rubi- I have made the same mistake and felt naked so many times I decided to keep a cryo in the truck full time... Doesn't come close to replacing that XM when left home by any means but still makes me feel a little less bare.

OP - I hardly leave my room without a knife. I can't imagine going a full day without one. Occasionally I forget my Leatherman, but that doesn't come out as much

Just got home from Salt Lake City. So nice to have an XM back in my pocket!!! 24 hours without!!!!!:grumpy:

You're exactly right Rubi, knife, gun (s), and necessary equipment. I find it so relaxing driving, especially being comfortable in ones own skin. Holly crap I think we are describing that Viagra commercial, all we need is to be pulling that horse trailer and have our trusty steeds available to hitch up and pull us out in the event we become stuck in a bog.:)

I'm sort of the same way, my contingencies are all in my EDC, pack. It's my Linus blanket, so I'm never without it.... Kind of hard to forget your stuff when it's the size of a boulder. And as said before, I don't even walk to the couch without my XM!

And that is exactly why I drive 11 hrs. each way to the Blade Show every year while the rest of the team flies. Also the NJ shows.

There was a day when traveling was almost something to look forward to - today, not so much.
Delays, Fees, Being held captive after "Push-back", Security hassles ...... the drive length mentioned often times turns out to be a wash when compared to the door-to-door time frame for flying.
