The Gransfors Bruks Mini Hatchet is such an excellent outdoors tool, I don't know how I lived without it for so long! You can't really appreciate it until you hold it. I've used it for tasks that I would normally use a larger hatchet or big blade for, and it performed perfectly!

There have been several prior threads on this great little hatchet and the opinions have been very positive. Although I usually carry the Wildlife Hatchet for its greater chopping power, the Mini has a tremendous appeal that's hard to quantify. Almost everyone to whom I show the Mini instantly likes it, whereas the Wildlife Hatchet sometimes gets a "oh, just another axe" look (at least until they feel the edge!).

Eventually someone in Canada will start carrying them and I'll get my chance!
I've sure enjoyed using their other hatchets. I didn't think I'd use the carver's hatchet very much but it's worth carrying to just to play with shaping wood even if I'll never be a carver. All the GB products seem to be very well conceived and work much better than expected.

I've never owned a hatchet that would shave my arm! My next purchase will be the Wildlife Hatchet for camp use. I am totally sold on Gransfors. They are a bit more money, but worth it for a serious using tool. I love the Mini for dayhikes because it sleeps into my belt and forget it's there, and it doesn't get any weird stares.

Although the Wildlife Hatchet is my most used GB, since you already have the Mini an argument can be made for moving up to the Small Forest Axe for camp use. The head is heavier than on the Wildlife and the handle is a fair amount longer. It hits hard and bites deep. However, you can choke up on it by 5 or 6 inches and do the same things you would with the Wildlife.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from buying a Wildlife----I'm just being a troublemaker and suggesting other options. When you're indoors and not using one, debating their relative merits is the next best thing!

Good point. How about both?! :) Or all of 'em eventually, "an axe for every occasion"!

You're reading my mind! I may not have ALL of them, but I have a lot. I didn't suggest that because I was trying to be a considerate guy and save you some money.....
