This is the new solar powered g-shock. It is the model G-5600. Supposed to never need batteries. I am not crazy about the retro g-shock look but I like the features:

* time

* 100 hour countdown timer (which shows current time in the rectangular box in the top right corner of the display while countdown is operating)

* five daily alarms (one has a "snooze" feature). This mode also shows current time in top right corner as well

* stopwatch (1/100th second)

* dual time (shows time in another time zone plus original time zone in top right corner of display)

* LED night light can be set to turn on by simply twisting your wrist to have the dial at a 90 degree angle. Handy on long drives in a vehicle at night.

* Watch shuts down into "sleep mode" if placed in a dark area -- will turn back on if button is pushed or exposed to light.

I was thinking about getting this one. It has all the same pictures I believe. And it also comes in black.

That looks much better. Do you know what model number it is?

I'm not sure if the watch above is one of the multi-colored ones, but just a little warning that in the ones where you can set the display to be different colors, the black color isn't really black. It's more like a combination of the available colors, so it looks fuzzy and isn't really dark.

This summer, I saw several Tough Solar watches in Hong Kong, so maybe with time there will be more available in the US.

I debated putting a link to that very store lol. The model # is G-2800-8DR. Heres another link to a store just to give you some variety! :D Cheers!

Not much I can add that hasn't been said in this excellent review:

The first thing I noticed was how much thinner the watch is than my DW-6600. None of the pictures I have seen do this watch justice.

Fit and finish on it seem much better than previous G-shocks I have had. I don't know if it is because this one is made in japan and the others weren't or if the level of fit and finish on G-shocks has improved across the board.

I am glad I bought one.

I bought mine form Katsuhisa Higuchi of http://www.higuchi-inc.com

I got ordered it last Thursday and got it today (Monday). I would say thats very good service. I won't hesitate to order from him again.

Here is a better pic. The other pics don't do this watch justice.

Well, hell; for a hundred bucks, I certainly hope so. The last G-Shock I purchased a few years ago was like $45.

Very true, but what you are getting for a little less than $100 is a watch made for the Japanese market, you can't get them i the U.S. That price also includes shipping from Japan. I had heard the quality of the G-shocks made in Japan was better than those made in Korea. If this watch is any indication I woudl say that is true. I believe the fact that these are solar powered also adds to the price.

I wish I could have bought this one here for $45, of course with my luck they will start selling them here in a few months. ;)
