Have you seen one of these? Did I find something really special?

I found this axe today, and after a close look saw the Legitimus logo, the Collins and Co. name and the numbers 412. It is big, probably a 4.5lb head, and with that wrap around no poll old forged style, but it looks clean like a factory head, not one formed on an anvil. The handle is also original, 35 inches long but with a larger than normal eye. Not much of a swell, so I don't know if the handle lost an inch or two at one point. I've not yet seen one like this.

I believe that this style of axe head was made for export to South America countries.

A sweeeet find.

I just saw a similar one and it may even have been you that said the same thing, but that one had a mostly round eye, this looks standard just bigger. Hmmm...

Very cool. What would you call the pattern? Trade axe? It's a big sucker.

I would never do this to this one, but if anyone ever found one of these that was pitted it would make an awesome project. I'm thinking along the lines of the etched Mjolnir hammer that was recently posted. This would be a great basis for a art/weapon project.

As others have mentioned it's a Latin American style of axe. The lack of a poll is compensated for in the hafting. These are still made by companies like Imacasa, Truper, etc.

"Spanish Pattern", according to the Douglas Axe catalog.

Actually was debating making something exactly like this in my forge! Mind posting the Dimensions?
