Hi, I am currently in a look out for my first knife, I would like something small to carry around, but also find the traditional japanese tanto knives absolutely appealing. I have my eyes now on the CRKT K.I.S.S. and CRKT First strike.

Recently I have come across this small black "back up" tanto from Böker, and can't possibly find it anywhere else. Have you ever seen it? Something you can tell me about it ? Thanks !

I think it resembles the holy grail knife for me, Its not exactly traditional, but has everything I love about Japanese tantos. Any post is welcome !

Whats your price range going to be? If you are into CRKT, i'd look into the m-16 series because you can get the tanto blade configuration. Its a good knife for the money, but for a bit more you can get a better knife.

Ah, yes I have actually found out myself by finding the number of the knife on the czech site.

So, what can you tell me about this knife ? I am eager to know.

What I am looking for is preferably fixed, tanto, wrapped, preferably more compact, preferably more traditional, preferably not blackened blade.

I would say up to 3000 czk ($100-120)

For now the Bud Nealy design looks most appealing.

You can have someone remove the blade coating and finish really nicely to a stain polished or other finish.

Will someone answer my above post please ?

I would like to have some more info about the nealy knife. dont let this topic die please

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

Bud Nealy has great designs. Of course, his own customs are over twice your budget. Boker has done a few of these "aikuchi" models, mostly with handle slabs. The one you were looking at is 440C which is good steel.

You can always do your own cordwrap. For example:
Strider Wrap - http://www.striderknives.com/html/handlewrapping.html
The Art of Tsukamaki - http://pages.prodigy.net/tlbuck/tsuka/tsuka.htm

Also, take a look at the Crawford's website http://www.crawfordknives.com/neck_knives.htm

They have neck knives you might like. There is a tanto Neck Knife on page one and the Triumph on page 2. You would have to wrap these yourself.

Is there a difference between the Specialist I tanto, and the back-up paracord one I was asking about ? I mean, If I buy a Specialist I tanto uncoated, and wrap it with a paracord, will I achieve the same result ? If not, would it be wise to wrap the specialist tanto with a paracord or some other form of wrapping material ? Thanks !

Also, the paracord Nealy features a "leather sheath insertable in a high boot". What can that look like ? Thanks !

I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to bump this.

I am currently deciding between the Bud Nealy Specialist and the Bud nealy paracord tanto. What is the real difference between the two ? Has anyone seen these two and can compare them ? would wrapping a specialist with paracord achieve the same result as the paracord nealy ?

Thanks a lot
