That's a question that's asked a lot when someone is considering buying a second hand Sebenza. I would like to help out the brothers and sisters and post some pictures of re-sharpened sebenza's, it's important that you know what to look for cuz in most cases the seller just shows the pictures and it's up to you to know what to look for. So here goes and if anyone has some more info to add and help us all understand what to look for, it would be greatly appreciated.

This is where I think you should be looking before you purchase a sebbie on the secondary market, the further up the edge goes the more it was sharpened.

Here you have three old school sebenza's, the top one was never sharpened, the middle was sharpened and the bottom one was sharpened quit a bit.

Hope this helps and if anyone has anything else to add please do, knowledge is power and sharing it is what we're here for.

Dino--thanks for posting this! This comparison pic makes it very easy to see the difference between sharpened and unsharpened Sebs. I immediately pulled the small Reg from my pocket to do a comparison!

Inspecting the finish on the edge is also a give away for a sharpened knife, it's not always possible to see in pics but clear as day when one can inspect a knife by eye. I'll throw a few pics up of a sharpened and unsharpened knives if I can find my camera, or if someone doesn't beat me to it. :)

And they put the bottom one in the washer as well, cause it sure shrunk.:)

The tip is another place to look for signs of sharpening. The bottom one shows some rounding where the secondary bevel meets the primary. The middle one looks like the point may even be rounded a bit. On the top, unsharpened one, the bevel to bevel line goes nice and straight up to the spine.

For me pics are always deceiving. You kind of just have to trust who you're dealing with. I took a couple quick pics now.

The bottom two have never been sharpened/lightly used. The top two have been sharpened quite a few times now and have been used on cardboard, metal, wood cabinets, and branches. Just moved into a new apartment recently and gotta get rid of more boxes, cheers~
