Have you thanked an officer today?

I got pulled over this morning on account of doing a rolling stop at a stop sign. When everything was all said and done (I only got a warning by the way :) ) I thanked him for doing his job, and that I knew it was all too often a thankless one. He agreed, but the big cheesy grin on his face let me know that I had just made his day. Made my day too, knowing I had helped brighten up his morning. I would have thanked him even if he had given me a ticket (I DID roll through the sign after all).

Anyone else here done something similar? :)

I'd like to thank you for thanking that officer!!

I have a brother who's a county deputy, another who's in the academy now, and I'm going in in Jan.

I've talked to alot of people who are always like "why would you want to be a cop" and "everyone hates the cops".., so it's nice to see that someone out there still respects LEO's when they're doing their jobs and not just when they need their help!

I yelled at an officer today.

He decided to interview 2 of the 3 employees working at the Jack in the Box at 12:15pm about a car getting keyed two nights ago.

You just don't want to make a fat mans chicken sammich take any longer than it has to.

Well I told two cops today to kiss my ***....but they are all friends of mine....I have several close friends that were made during my employment at a friends police supply store.....Funny thing is my brother in law is city pd and i hardly ever talk to him.....These guys are good people after both Rita and Ike they kept an eye on my place until I got back.....Always remember they are everyday people same as you and I. Don't let the actions of a few asswholes give the rest of these guys a bad rap......

Shoot, if I ever get let off with a warning I'd thank the officer. I've been pulled over 3 times, and never got off with a warning.

I do agree that it is a thankless job. 90% of the time, I appreciate the men in blue. The other 10% of the time when they look for any excuse to give you a ticket, I'm not the biggest fan.

Other side of the coin, thats a big part of how they raise the funds for training and extra equipment.;)

I thanked an officer for his service once but it was after acting like an @$$ towards him. I cooled off and apologized because my best friend is in law enforcement also and I know what they go through. He accepted my apology and basically gave me a warning for 3 different offenses. To this day I can't believe he didn't through the book at me.

I was on the way to get the tail light wiring fixed on my trailer when a State Patrol officer noticed my trailer lights not working. I told him I was on the way to an appointment to get them fixed & gave him the business name of where I was going. I also told him I was glad to see he was doing his job. He was very nice & gave me a warning.

I've always thanked the officer whether given a ticket or not. As you say for the most part it's a thankless job 90% of the time.

Yup, everytime I get stopped (thou that isn't a weekly thing anymore), and everytime I see my neighbor (local town cop). I always viewed it as they have a job to do, and there is no reason to be disrespectful or rude to them, even if you don't like geting a ticket. To me it is no different than thanking the guys going overseas for their service.

I have been pulled over a couple times before and never gotten a ticket. I always thank the officer no matter what. I also try and thank them anytime I am on an organized bike ride or race and they have blocked off intersections for me. I think the job they perform deserves as much recognition as we can give. Just think how few times people they pull over sincerely thank them for they job they are doing

I have a cousin who is a cop. He likes to tell the story of what he tells kids when they tell him they want to be a cop. He always asks them - Is it important to you for other people to like you? If so don't be a cop.
He's in TX and I'm in Ky, when we see each other at family gatherings- we share on the job stories- he's got some good ones.

Exactly! You don't need to get shipped overseas for your job to be an important service to your country.

I know I shouldn't say this. I'm going to curse myself for sure and ruin this. I'm 41 and although I have had warnings, I have never had a ticket except one and I beat that in court, believe it or not. I've had repair orders, but that's nothing anyway.

Around here, generally speaking, if you get pulled over late at night, and I work nights, they hit you for a taillight or tag light or whatever, it's to see if you have been drankin. :D

Generally when they see that you are sober and not a brownaround with them, they cut you loose doublequick so they can go bust a DUI/DWI.

I always thank them. When I get a flat, also jinxing myself here a bit, I call 911 on the cell phone and have them come out and hit the lights behind my car so no drunk or person asleep hits me and kills me. There is a good bit of that in Maryland over the last few years, pays to be careful. And I have one eye on the lugs and four way and one on that cruiser because if someone hits it, I'll be diving. :)

My Brother in law was on the job for 25 years before he retired, I've always thanked on Officer for doin' their job, even when I got a ticket.

I learned a long time ago mouthin' off to a cop can only make your current situation worse, my brother taught me well when I was younger when I get stopped I pull over ,(some place safe for everyone) too many people pull over on dangerous corners and leave themselves and the LEO exposed to danger.

Always put your flashers and turn off your ignition, keep your hands on the wheel and don't make sudden suspicious movements and just relax and let them do their jobs.

When it's all said and done I always say thank you and tell them to have a good day, now what I think is a different thing sometimes, I mean we're all human, even my brother in law, at least that's what he always told me,;) even when he was on the job:).
