Have you tried a "Try Stick"? If so, show it; if not, "Try" it!

I have referenced a "Try Stick" in a different thread, and I wasn't sure if everyone here was familiar with them. Due to that I thought it would be a good idea for a picture thread in our own little corner.

That being said, Feel free to show your "Try Sticks" and what knives or hatchets or Anything used to carve them.
(I would suggest trying knives of every size range and multiple blade/tip shapes.)
This will give you a Really good idea as to how comfortable you are with each knife, and what you are capable of and where you may want to familiarize yourself further.

I will be posting in this thread with my own "Try stick". I haven't made one in awhile, and having a new (to me) JK knife is a Great time to do so.

Dang it, I've done variations while out camping but never saved one.
They do make good kindling once done playing with them.

Same thing with me...
I find it relaxing to sit around a fire and keep my "hands occupied and mind free". Once I find myself back "aware" or otherwise being distracted, I find myself grabbing another stick and the previous has become ash.

i recently have started doing these for the very reasons you mentioned bill (my own bastardized version). it lets me get familiar with a blade. and, it is a similar test for all knives. i did do one with the mud turtle during the passaround. it is definitely not a carving knife, but it really did perform well.

i have posted these in the MT passarounnd thread, but i don't mind doubling up. :D
