I took an old cheapo kitchen pattern for a project Im doing for Relay for Life and ....... Changed the construction method, ricasso area to handle adjustment and finally a blade shape change and BAM!
My new pairing knife pattern.
I had a staff that passed away last may from cancer and Im going to be doing a raffle for a pairing knife. Good way to raise money for the cause.
Ashley was who passed away last year.
Her to be mother inlaw spends alot of time in the kitchen. She is also a staff of ours and I asked her what her favorite kitchen user is. She brought me in the knife she used and I traced it. Made the changes I wanted and thats how I have the new pattern. I also wanted to have a pattern that was damn near made of straight lines because all of my patterns are very curvy somewhat.
Not sure what Ill name the pattern but im excited about it just because of what the process has meant for to me.
Im thinking of naming it the AK Paring knife or the AKP (Ashley Knife Project) for short.
Ill be making the future mother in law and the mother of Ashley a knife each and also Ill be making this a repeat pattern for sure.
Anyways - Here are several profile pics of blanks. I was just excited I actually PEALED out one from scrap section after roughing out a Skinner today. I had planned on making him one for the caper to go with the skinner but I was super happy I actually made on from the leftover steel. Sort of meant to me I guess
AKP's top right
