Alright guys, I've gone absolutely nuts last week and ordered a large african blackwood seb, a hinderer xm-24, 2 saks and am on the prowl once again. I haven't even received any of them and I'm on to a new dilemma. Since I ordered the wood inlay seb I've said to myself should I have gotten a Micarta? I'm afraid that with the polished finish of the blackwood it's gonna get scratched up to easily and I'll be afraid to use it. So I said I'll get a Micarta or an all titanium large 21 for a harder user (even though a barely use my knives at all, literally). Now a large snakewood has come available and I really want it as it was my first choice in wood sebs but wasn't available a week ago. BUT I'm afraid if I pull the trigger I'll be where I'm at now and have 2 sebs I'm afraid to use and get scratched up, even though they look so beautiful lol. What do you guys think I should do?

You should not be too worried about the woods. They're hard, dense woods and should stand up to your light use while maintaining their beauty. A little bit of wood wax never hurt either. Congrats on the purchases, hopefully one day i can make orders like that as well.

I am more worried about the polished areas of the handle, as well as the polished blade. But knowing the wood is tough is great too.

I believe the wood used on the knives is Stabilized wood, that is sealed under pressure with a polyester resin.
See "Inlays" in the Folding Knife section of the CRK website for an explaination.

I have owned several knives with stabilized wood and it is tough, attractive, and easy to maintain with just a bit of wax, as legato1 advised.
Much of the enjoyment of owning a fine tool is in the use of it. Get what you really like and enjoy using and carrying it.
Even if it gets a few "character marks" along the way it will still be your good friend.

I have been EDC'ing a blackwood mnandi at work in my scrubs pocket for about the last five years and it rides along with pens and other stuff and gets about zero pampering. Wood looks great. I also at home EDC a large 2006 LE Buckeye burl. The woods on both have held up great. If anything they get darker with more charachter with use. I don't abuse them by any means but I treat them like any other knife I carry. Of course you can't beat the micarta for bullet proof utility and grip but the woods look more classy and less military. Use and carry it!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that he is concerned with how well the polished TI side on the wood inlays will hold up to everyday use, and not the wood itself. I myself only have one CRK with the polished ti, and it has held up really well. However, I must say this is a result of storing it in the CRK slip pouch that was included with the knife. In my opinion that slip pouch and wood/mammoth inlaid knives are meant to go together. It makes for discrete carry and even less of a chance of losing the knife. Also, the slip pouches really develop character after extended use which I also feel looks just great.

OK yeah I see. The polished areas will develop small scratches regardless of how you carry it. But my policy is buy it, use it and enjoy it!

Scuffs and scratches just come with the territory of using your knives. Both the bead blasted micarta and the polished woods will show use. Maybe you want a used knife or you would rather keep it as a safe queen. You can also carry your knife in a sheath to minimize scuffs.
